frame swapping?
im hopefully going to be gettin a 2wd blazer but im wondering how are is it to swap to a 4wd rig? cause i love my 4wds.
the blazer is a 75 2wd. I have a 79 4x4 truck frame 1/2 ton. my question is could i chop the front half of that truck frame off and weld it onto the blazer frame? are they the "same frames" as in size and thickness? i understand the truck frame will be longer than the blazer but ill only need the front clip of the 4wd frame. but.. how realistic is this idea?

Re: frame swapping?
or would it just be more simple to buy another 70s-80s k5 and ditch the body just buy it for the 4x4 frame?
if the frames are the same it'd be cheaper for me. because i already own it!

Re: frame swapping?
You could swap the leaf spring hangers over, I'd think, and reuse the 2wd frame. They swap 4wd's into 2wd's all the time. I don't see why it wouldn't go the other way too

Re: frame swapping?
There are differences between the 4wd and a 2wd frame.. It is easier to go from a 4 wd to a 2wd than the other way around if you are specifically asking about frames.
My suggestion would be to get the 2wd and sell it and buy a 4wd. There are more 4wd then there are 2wd trucks out there. You can get the premium price for the 2wd that you wouldn't get for the 4wd. If you want to know what is different.. 1. there are holes in the frame for the spring perches int eh front. 2. the e-brake cable runs into the frame further down than the 2wd. 3. the rear spring hangers are longer than the 2wd ones. Those are the ones off the top of my head.. This I know because my 2wd frame is messed up and I bought a 74 4wd frame to replace it with. |

Re: frame swapping?
I went the other way from 4WD to 2WD. this is before, during, and after.
