best tire combo 66 c10 with 15" rims?

I've got a 66 c10 shorty step. I have a set of 15x9 centerlines, not my first choice but it's what I have and money is tight. I'm looking to fill the wheel well as much as possible. So far I have a 2 1/2" drop in the front, not sure what I'm doing in the back yet. I figure I'll wait and see what it looks like when I get it all back together. Any suggestions and pics would be much appreciated thank you.

Re: best tire combo 66 c10 with 15" rims?

I"m dropped 4-6" give or take all around. Currently I'm running a 235/70 all around, but the side profile is a bit too high in the front imo. I've found that a 235/60/15 fits and feels the best up front. The only issue with that is that the 235/60 is getting a bit harder to find, but it seems to be the best mix of sidewall for a truck with as much weight over the front as mine currently does, yet still handle well and track straight.

Re: best tire combo 66 c10 with 15" rims?

I guess I should make that a little clearer: I already have 15x9 rims, I'm staying six lug same size rims all around. I'm trying to figure out what size tires will look good. So far I've dropped the front 2 1/2" and am not sure about the back. Hatredcopter thanks, I don't plan on going that low though...are your rims 15x9?....... Sir, I'm sorry you didn't understand the question...I would love to buy nice new torque thrust in any size...my piggy bank is running too low for that...and you never did say what size tires you're running or if all 4 rims are 8.5 ....they don't look it. It would be easier if I could afford to buy big and littles, I could figure that out ok. It's a little harder to get that look when you're running the same size rims and that's what I'm trying to figure out.

The tires size you can run will depend entirely on your taste and the offset of the wheels.

You just messed with my head.....you also have a light blue truck....and you also have cancer? I really thought I was the only one with that combo on a 60-66 lol. The world is full of really weird coincidences.

I ran stager 235/60/15 and 295/50/15. I would see if you can get the 295s for width it is going to be ruff steering with out power steering. 15s are getting hard to find.

Those wheels have a lot of positive offset so it's gonna be tough to get them under there with much lowering. Do your measuring carefully. I have 15x8's with 4.5 backspace (I think) with 235/70's and on the rear you can't get your hand between the tire and fender lip to wash them.

I'm currently running BFG's 255 60 15 front and 275 60 15 rear on 6 lug 8 inch
wheels. They fit fine but not sure how your 9 inch wheels would work. Hope this helps...

There's not as much room under the rear fenders of a stepper as there is a fleetside...

Here is my 62 with 275/60R15's in the rear. I am not entirely sure what the fronts were 255/60R15's. If I were to do it over again i would use a taller tire in the front.

Re: best tire combo 66 c10 with 15" rims?

Im going for the same profile and look as your truck. Currently I have all black 225/70R15all the way around.
I came up on some whitewalls but its staggard sizes. I wana know if this would be good for a 66' Chevy C10 LWB fleetside.

I found these tires used for sale and wana know if I should buy them:
Coker 195/75R15 Front
BF Goodrich 235/75R15 Rear

Ive been advised that when I lower my truck, that I should get thinner tires up front because larger tires will rub against wheel wells.

so, should I run same size tires all the way around or have staggard sizes for a lowered truck?

Re: best tire combo 66 c10 with 15" rims?

2 year old thread man, but for the sake of productivity;

What you can get away with with depend on how much you plan on lowering the truck, and to some extent, what method you use. In the front, your biggest threat with too much tire is either hitting the fender bolts, or rubbing the tie rod (or possible sway bar if you have one).

Your current tire is 27.4" tall all the way around.
The new fronts are 26.5" tall
The new rears are 28.8" tall.

Running a 29" tire in back is doable with plenty of combo's, but at full compression on trucks lowered 4-6", you may be getting close to that rear tub. I've got a stepside so my clearances out back are a bit different tho.

As for the front, that tire will clear pretty much any combo, as its pretty small. My concerns would be that a small tire on a 15" rim on the front of a very low truck creates even more lowering. This means that your oil pan and other bits are lower, in this case about an inch lower. So if you drop the truck 4", you'll be closer to 5" with the small tires. You also want to consider the way smaller diameter tires fill the wheel well. Too small and it gets very "90's mini truck" looking.

Re: best tire combo 66 c10 with 15" rims?

thanx for your response!

I plan on air bagging my truck to sit all the way down when parked.

I definitely do not want that 90s mini truck look.

So Id like the best possible size tires.

Now it's one month away from being 3 years.
But I still can't figure out why people post stuff giving other members the impression that some 'old' thread shouldn't be posted in. Personally, I like it when members post in an existing 'on topic' thread. - Keeps information consolidated.
Besides, an 'old thread' can still have currently useful information.

Something else to consider on that line of thought is; as the archive continues to grow, the interaction of the members seems to decline since we increasingly just "post a link and move on". I fear this will lead to a general lack of interest as we slowly evolve from "discussion forum" to "reference library".

I have a 4\5 drop with bags in the rear. I run 225/70/15's on 7' ralleys up front and 275/60/15's on 8" ralleys out back. I use my truck to tow a TT so it doesnt get dropped to park. I love the stance.

That's my daughter in the truck. I have had the truck since she was 2, she will be 28 this year.

Here is mine, 15x5.5 6 lugs (disc brake wheels- 4 nub) with 215/75 R15 tires. 2" drop spindles, 1" springs front and 3" drop springs in back.

I had 225/60 R15's on it but looked too low to me and the front cross member was too close to the ground for daily driving. FWIW
