Chassis Help

Hey guy's, my father in law bought this frame a few months back as a substitute for his C10, but decided to stick to his stock frame. He was told it was a '62 or '64 C10 frame, but doesn't remember exactly which. I've been pondering the idea of building a C10 and wanted to get some thoughts and opinions on this setup. Ultimately, I want to bag it, but will likely start with a static drop until the funds can be raised to complete that section of the build. A buddy had his 66 C10 up at the shop the day I took these pic's and I could see the difference in the front body mounts.

Pic's aren't great, but here's what I have. If you need more detail, I can go back over there and focus in on areas.

60 to 62 frame....!

It looks like a 60-62 frame with a different year front end on it because it has an x frame in the center and the rails kick out in the back. the 63-66 have 2 parallel rails and no x frame. These trucks did not have coils up front until 63. Where the trailing arms attach to the frame is not where they usually attach. Or it might be a 60-62 GM frame. I think they had coils up front but they had leafs in the rear but I know very little about gm frames. Some one else will have to chime in on that.

Also has ladder bar's in the rear,not a bad thing.Coil over shocks?

Yes, it has coilovers. What mods would have to be done to fit a 63-66 body on this chassis?

60-62 frame, pinto/mustang II front suspension and 12 bolt rear from a chevelle or impala as far as using frame on a 63-66 unsure,maybe some one will chime in.

From what I have heard on this sight. The bed mounts can be changed by using 60-62 cross bars in the bed. On the cab you will need to relocate 2 of the 4 mounts. I don't know if they are the front or the rears. As far as the mounts that hold the rad support I don't know it those are in the right position or not. I would guess they are. If you do a such I know this topic has been discussed many times only usually the other way around. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I will chime in.

I agree with bama63. That is a '60-'62 frame with a Mustang II front suspension, and a rear differential from a Chevelle, Malibu, Impala, Caprice.

What I would suggest before you get too far along is check with your local DMV as to what is required for titling and licensing a vehicle that has a frame and cab with different VIN numbers.

Mounting the cab and nose is fairly easy. You will have to drill new holes in your cab for the front cab mount bolts. The '60-'62's are farther outward than the '63-'72's. You will have to run either a '60-'62 radiator, which bolts to the radiator support, or fabricate a lower mount for a '63-'66 radiator. The bed mounts on the '60-'62's are farther apart than on the '63+. So to mount your bed, you will have to either change the bedsills to the '60-'63 pieces, or fabricate frame mounts to accept the '66 bedsills. You will also need '60-'62 bumpers.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm going to hold off on this project for the time being and see what else is out there.
