The insanity continues.....
Like I don't already have enough trucks and projects to complete.....my wife was watching overhauling last night and saw the episode where they did a mid 50's ford bus for John Force. Now she wants one pretty bad. She is a school teacher and she said that's what a school teacher needs for a hot rod. So now I am on the search for a 48-59 Chevy short school bus or a long one I can make into a shorty for the wife......I just this week had to put up my lift in my garage because I ran out of space for vehicles. I really need to get that new shop up in the spring. Now I need another lift for in there!

Re: The insanity continues.....
I thought you use a lift to park two cars in the same space one up and one down. Those little buses come up for sale every once in a while but plan on making a road trip to get one.

Re: The insanity continues.....
I work for a bus company and would love to hotrod a short bus. Most of the buses back then were built on the larger truck chassis which isn't an issue for you. If you get a 55-59 Chevrolet it might come with a Nailhead Buick which imo is a very cool engine and would be fun to retrofit to fuel injection. You can frequently find bus bodies in the midwest and southwest. Most of the ones in the northeast are extremely rough. I have a couple of rusty '95 one ton short buses I'll let go cheap so you can get started collecting electronics &etc.

Re: The insanity continues.....
Look at Bbeeps bus thread. I think he took a longer one and shortened it. If you look closely you will see the bodies are modular, each single or pair of windows are panels riveted together. You could get a longer one and shorten to to your liking. You would have to relocate the rear spring hangers and shorten the drive line, but you would probably be lowering it anyway so that is not a big deal. Or just shorten the body and drop it on a later model dually frame. My friend did that with this mids 90's 4wd, it had a section taken out behind the cab so the flatbed was shorter. He also but the larger alcoa wheels on it. You could get a 2wd dually, lots of info on slamming and modifying those on the net.

Re: The insanity continues.....
I will check out Bbeeps bus thread. I was already looking at how they were put together and figure I could drill the rivits out and make it what ever length I wanted.

Re: The insanity continues.....
I would recommend trying to find either a blue bird, Crown or Thomas body the rest of the bus body manufacturers are inferior. If you go with a v8 make sure you go with duals all the way back under the back bumper. The extra length on the pipes really makes them cackle unlike anything else you've heard.
