How many out there build cages so the doors will open?
I was just wondering how many blazer/Jimmy owners have built cages to solve the door shutting problems.

if your door is not shutting, you have issues under the cab. Fix that first. Don't band-aid a solution

I don't have any issues underneath. Or any issues with my doors shutting. I just put a cage in and it made the truck so much more solid i don't know how anyone drives these trucks without one.

Doors generally are not a problem. I have only had 2 issues, one was the striker plate not aligning and after hours of shimming and adjusting I just swapped it with one from a junk yard and no more problems. The second was welded on new pillars and the passenger door would rub the windshield pillar. We ground the door about an 1/8" during body fitment before paint. Otherwise I have never heard of this as a problem.

Really? I figured it was a common problem. i have had 2 of them including a rust free survivor and both had minor door problems.

Re: How many out there build cages so the doors will open?
My Jimmy has always had issues with the passenger door sticking when I pulled the hard top off. With the top on, no problems. They mostly went away with the cage, but when I put the soft top on I had to cut the front of the cage off the bar. Haven't rebuilt it yet, but I will do some tweaking of the tub before I weld it all together to smooth that door issue out.

Re: How many out there build cages so the doors will open?
Most sag issues happen with the rust that occurs in the rocker boxes and rocker panel. If you Leave the top off for long periods the a pillar can sag and cause the door issue. Putting the top back on and having a good seal on the front upper portion of the door will push the a pillar back into place and usually will open that gap back up. My new front door seal is almost a inch thick. If yours is stock or worn it will flatten out and let the a piller sag more and have That issue. Having a 6 point cage will help a lot to stiffen up the body and hold It In place. Off roading makes it worse By twisting the frame and body. I've actually seen it twist A body so Bad that it busted the window out of the top side windows. It snapped the fiberglass on a single wall on a video I watched on YouTube. I will be putting back in a roll bar and Probably 6 point cage to keep the body from sagging eventually.

Nope. Even with good rocker boxes they start to sag a bit. Metal fatigue. Gravity sucks. Lol

No they all have some amount of sag or bend in em
i ll bet they did when they were brand new thats why they quit making a full removable top that and safety standards |
