Year?

Hi. I'm mostly on the 88-98 side but was driving thru a near by town and say this. Pulled over to take a look. No price or info. What year is it? Looks to be in real nice shape. Buckets too. Thanks.

Re: Year?

1980 with a newer box and mirrors. 1980 was the only year for that extra body line on the front of the hood.

I believe 79 & 80 had the extra lip on the hood , so round lights make it a 79 unless parts have been changed .

Re: Year?

Doors are 76-80, grill is a 76-77... But i'd say titled as a 79 or 80... All the parts are []interchangeable... Looks sharp!!

Re: Year?

Old beds are 73-78. They have a round fuel door right on the bedside. Newer 79-87 have actual fuel doors. They can be swapped except tailgates. They have many versions. A thread was on here somewhere

Re: Year?

It's a 79. The the bezels went around the signal lamps on 79 and 80 models. But 80 models had rectangle headlamps.

Re: Year?

Are buckets a rare option for a 79ish truck? Assuming they were factory ordered?

Re: Year?

Its a 1979 if its original. Its a Silverado so it would have had square lights in 1980 and round in 1979. I think the square lights were standard on Silverado in 80. Most lesser trim levels had round lights in 1980 also. That's a nicely optioned truck.

Re: Year?

yup, my mistake. It's a 79; and 79 and 80 had that lip on the hood. The gas cap door came in 79 too. I had to go look at my 79. I never paid much attention to the rectangle headlights but I guess that is a give away too. Very very nice looking truck. The mirrors are probably original too.

Re: Year?

It is a 79. Black grille gives it away. All 80 model silverados had square headlights. The truck looks nice. The buckets are original, not very common in these trucks. Check the spid in the glovebox. It will have all options listed.

Re: Year?

I'm going to guess 79 due to having a 203 transfer case. 80 would be a 205 and have a different lever. Everything on this truck could have been swapped out over the years.

Re: Year?

everything looks to be 79, not sure how the doors are 76 , thry came to that interior design in 77. grille is def a 78-79. And the lip on the front of the hood was put on 77 trucks and carried through 80, not 80 only..

Re: Year?

77 did not have a lip on the front of the hood. I own two of these both with original paint. Assuming the truck hasn't had a whole bunch of parts changed it is a 1979. Looks to have some nice options.

Re: Year?

Here is a link to the generic info kits in the GM Heritage Center archives:

http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...tion-kits.html

In case anyone wants to know for sure, these are the definitive answer on trim levels and option content.

I am going to make a statement on round light/square lights for 1980, and I want to be very clear:

Custom deluxe: round lights

Scottsdale (Z62): round lights, unless RPO V22 uplevel grille was ordered, and then you got square lights.

Silverado (YE9): square lights (V22 included with YE9).

That's how they came.

I always bought Scottsdales, so that I could get manual windows, manual locks and the full vinyl flooring. But - I ordered my '80 with V22 just so I could get the square lights and chrome grille. (I spent the whole summer in the Inspection/Reliability office pouring over the VDS (Engineering Vehicle Description Summary) figuring out how I wanted to option my truck out).

FWIW -

K

Now theres something I didnt know. I "thought" square headlights were Silverado only. I didnt realize you could upgrade a Scottsdale too.

My Scottsdale has that option. I'm glad too. I haven't seen many trucks that weren't though. Only the occasional custom deluxe
