Make it Stop- Brake Tech
We have the hugely popular "Make it Handle" thread for suspension ideas; let's start one for brake upgrades. There are stock-type disc conversion threads already, but none that I could find that had detailed info on upgraded brakes.
Info on what spindles have separate caliper brackets, what type of calipers would work well, master cylinder sizing, rear axle flange patterns for rear caliper brackets, etc. could be very helpful to someone wanting more than just the original style disc brake conversion kits. Front-to-rear brake balance vs weight distribution would be a good discussion topic since our trucks are more nose heavy than the usual pro-touring muscle cars. The weight of different calipers and rotors would be useful for someone trying to cut back unsprung weight. Throw some questions/discussion ideas out to get the ball rolling!

C5 Vette calipers/discs are a good upgrade over the original style disc kits, and aren't that expensive either. Forum member way2low is offering complete spindle/hub/caliper/rotor kits using 13" and 14" C5 Vette components.

I'm planning on using '09 up CTS-V brakes on my '66 C10. Six piston Brembo calipers on 14.5" rotors up front, and four piston rear calipers with 13" rotors. Spindles are CPP modular (provision for separate caliper bracket), CPP hubs, and rotors are StopTech. The rotor's center bore will have to be opened up in a lathe to fit the CPP hubs. So far the front brakes will weigh about five pounds less per side than the factory 12" single piston brakes. Will post back with caliper bracket info once I've got that far.
List of front part numbers: Calipers: AC Delco 172-2521 and 172-2522 Rotors: StopTech 126.62128CSL and 126.621128CSR Hubs: CPP CP35007 (4.75x5 pattern) Spindle Nut/Washer: Dorman 04993

I'll be working with a local machine shop within the next week or so to have brackets made. Planning on having 3-5 extra sets made to fit with CPP Modular spindles and hubs.

This could be a cool thread. The timing is good.
I am wondering what my options might be, I have the modular spindles and the Wilwood d52 calipers. I did the swap from drums to disks several years ago and kept my 6 lug configuration. Since I am budget minded (cheap) for now I will stay that route as I have wheels and tires. My crazy question is can I get a larger 6 lug disk and use my existing calipers on these modular spindles with a different bracket? This might be a mistake so that is why I am asking. Since I had done my swap there are several options out there now, i was more limited. The wilwood calipers are fairly new I had a chance to get them at a good price so I did. Now I wonder what might I do? my wheels are 18 inch and I have hydroboost.

I'm building a daily driver with no racing or autocross planned.
I have a set of C5 Vette front calipers from a previous project that are still brand new/unused. Would it be worthwhile to fab up a bracket to run these calipers on a stock 12" front truck rotor? I'm doing the 5 lug swap to the 1.25" front rotors on my 66 but really have no desire at this time up upgrade to a 17" wheel to run the 13" Vette rotors. I'd rather stay with my present 15" rims. Thoughts ... good or bad ...

I don't know if this is what you call upgrade but I just bought the CPP rear disc setup for my 71 12 bolt rear end. This is a upgrade from my drums though! I'm going to start taking it a part today. My good neighbor has let me barrow his new shop & lift for the weekend so I hope to have it all done by tomorrow night.
I got the first coat of paint on the calipers last night and started the second coat this morning. Here is the kit I bought with upgraded to S/S brake lines + slotted and drilled rotors which are 1" thick and 11.5" diameter. They want match perfectly to the fronts but close enough once the wheels are on you will never know the difference. Kit has e brakes built in which I hope work well since my drive way is on a hill.
