the 70 - 75 removable top is made of fibreglass right??

Soooo is there anyone who has considered (or actually completed) a customization of a spare top where it is cut off and then has fibreglass (excuse the spelling i'm a redcoat) custom added to create a short top that goes down to the floor behind the driver/ passenger to effectively create a Pickup truck when the rear seat is removed. Strikes me this would be quite useful. any thoughts?

Yes, and at least one company used to manufacture them. Someone linked a craigslist ad recently where a guy was reproducing the top half of the conversion, it would require you to fab the lower bulkhead.

Cool - are there any of your memory banks kicking in as to phrases or words used on that thread so I can search for it?

Sure, search for "K5 half cab" or "K5 half cab kit". They are kind of rare but still one pops up for sale every now and then. Someone linked a truck for sale here last week that had one.

Re: the 70 - 75 removable top is made of fibreglass right??

OK. I've done a ton of searching / googling etc and haven't found recent (In the last 5 years) mention of these anywhere remotely locally or any current suppliers. I guess its a build it yourself situation. there's a guy not far from me who has a spare white top I could get though it will probably set me back $200 or so. Plan A it to cut across the top about 6 inches behind the driver so it still mounts to the windshield and the side behind the doors and then build a fiberglass plate wall behind that down to the floor, cutting a hole to mount a window in for rear view. Alternatively plan B would mean the same first cut, then taking another cut just in front of the rear of the top. sticking those two parts together and then using the seals for the tailgate window to seat a board or fiberglass back to the cab which would go down to the floor. Plan B is seeming like the better option if the front and rear parts would fit together. Any tips or tricks and any ideas on how best to stick these bits together?

I see them on craigs list every so often, and they all seem to have the lower half open, which is odd.
