new to me 84 burb
was looking for a newer truck but last 2 i saw were 85 n 84.
picked up the 84 from board member. looks like i have an oil leak or leaks..sitting in snow but i see couple spots. all in all truck i think is in good shape. tomorrow morning il post of whats in the driveway. heat...well not sure if its not working or where you put it on dash is wrong. vent for floor etc. but i know chevy trucks and i dont think anything puts out better heat then a chevy. not cold air. but definutely not hot air coming out. should i change thermostat? and see what happens? seemed to work on my 94. i have rust and rot. in areas. will post. id like to keep this truck. fix what needs fixing..stop leaks. and have heat. not sure how bad rear rot is. hopefully when i post pics you guys can let me know. tires where shot. today i picked up another set of ralleys for truck with good tires. NEED trim rings. in nj. 3 inch i think. lmk where to get them if you know. headliner was sagging baddly. today i attempted to get it up a little bit... ended up putting a whole in liner. were can i get new one. or how much to fix in nj will post a bunch of pics in the morning so you guys can give me a better idea of what i actually have here. |

Re: new to me 84 burb
oh yea..
thinking about putting shackles on rear and cutting one coil off the front springs for now. have some rear air shocks i took off my 94. might swap. not sure yet how to mark out shock. i know its the crap way to go to drop truck. but just spent a good penny dropping the 94 the right way. so for now, ill go cheapy till i get better funds...xmas kids bday on xmas...etc. so for now. baby drop, swap wheels, try and find leaks, hope for help with heat, etc |

Re: new to me 84 burb
Well I don't want to spend 800+ on kit right now. So figure since I have wheels and tires ready when I put wheels on.. Il cut spring and ad shackle out back for a quick job. When I have more cash and info on dropping rear ill do the drop right

Re: new to me 84 burb
thanks for reply.
was gonna try and get her down today. but since i need to change out front brakes and calipers, ill wait till i do brakes to do the cheepo drop. new shoes now i need to find some damn trim rings. want the 3 inch ones. but dont want to buy online. and then get rings that wont stay on..... white walls were cool. but needed tires, so i picked up the ralleys with meat. ill mess around with the wheels i took off and either sell or change color and keep. day 3. truck rides like a caddy. thought i had no heat. picked up a thermostat...then today before changing out. looked like radiater was empty. so i put some fluid in and wallla heats hot like fire. |

Re: new to me 84 burb
The orange wire should be hooked to a 12+ constant power to retain the radio memory. the other thing is a FM antenna booster and would be powered up when the radio is on.

Re: new to me 84 burb
I bought Astro van trim rings for my 79 off ebay - they fit great and do not fall off. They are probably half as wide as the original trim rings, but they look great and I only paid like $45 for a new set of four.

Re: new to me 84 burb
couple more issues...
gas guage...reads..sometimes right...most of the time wrong...how to fix?? not sure if temp guage works truck seems to sputter after shut off...not all the time but some times.. i think its called diesleing?? how to fix this?? would the fact that truck needs plugs wires etc cause it to diesel? have not had time to give tune up. but when i have a couple bucks and time i will change plugs, wires, cap n rotor... not sure what else i should change. need brakes up front for sure. one side seems to be sticking...gotta find out what size rotors i have first before getting brake parts. the truck seems to idle high. and i believe the kick down is not working. not sure if thats what its called. but when i turn truck on it revs high, after warming up it does not really drop. and if i get in truck and give it gas...when in my old c10s the rmps would drop....in this one. it stays reving high. not sure if this is a choke issue or carb settings or what?? |

Re: new to me 84 burb
Is it a 305? Reason I ask, my parents bought an 83 K5 new with a 305, and it dieseled unless you ran premium gas. It was later given to me, I don't know, we never tried to fix it, just ran premium gas in it. The fuel gauge is likely a ground or short issue, you'll have to trace the wires to the tank to be sure. It wouldn't hurt to check the printed circuit behind the cluster for cracks first, though.

truck has 5.7 350 in it. i have not had it very long. only filled up once since purchase. its a 2nd vehicle for me. daily a 94 silverado. but this thing will get its share of drive time. i will check the ground on tank and hope its something simple like that. rather not take dash apart right away. if the printed circuit turns out the problem are they available.? a little cold here in nj right now. but when i get some time and maybe a couple more degrees out there ill try and follow wires for tank. im pretty sure this truck has not been driven much in last bunch of yrs. think the sticker was 08?? anyway, plugs look in bad shape, im sure wires been there a long time as well at everything else. again, when i get a couple bucks, and decent weather, i plan to get the brakes for front end and some tune up parts then go from there. |
