SLOW 1975 Stepside Build SLOW

I'm finally starting a thread for my 1975. This is my first ever vehicle purchase.

It came from Cail. and was orange, lowered and pretty solid when I bought it. It had a 327/350. After winter driving in NY she needed help. In 2002 I bucked up and started.

I sandblasted and painted the frame

Cab got corners, floor pans and rockers.

New sheet metal- Now I wish, really wish I had searched for GM stuff, but I was kinda crunched for time so 85% of the truck sheet metal came from LMC and local sources.

I'm going to find all the pics I have and post them ( I hate when there no pictures!

This is the back window we did. It was to match the tail lights in the roll pan. I think I'm going back to stock round taillights and just a standard pan.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1389716072

So I found a 454, spent a but load on it and that's what's going back in. I'll use the turbo 350 until she fails. I also stuck a rebuilt 12 bolt with 373 in the back.

I'm sure I'm not listing a ton of stuff so ask questions if you want.

I also have this 74 stepper that I'm trying to do as I drive it. Just putting the bed back together.

Re: SLOW 1975 Stepside Build SLOW

Yes, 1984. It's in pieces but frame was blasted/painted, cab done up and mounted. Finally no rust! I'm in the process of putting the engine together, putting brake/fuels on, and I just finished cleaning up my A833 trans and shifter. Turned out nice...
(Pics are from summer but basically looks the same)

Re: SLOW 1975 Stepside Build SLOW

They did come in diesels but those I think were iron cast (and I think the 4x4 versions were too). My truck came factory with the tranny and its aluminum. It was behind a 250 inline and now will be behind a 350. If you are looking for one/if you find one, make sure you get EVERYTHING included... shifter, rods, rods-to-transmission brackets... No new shifter can fit on it the A833... has to be factory. Also, I think that the iron case had a differently designed bellhousing than the aluminum case... Here are some pictures.

Re: SLOW 1975 Stepside Build SLOW

Pedals are most likely the same as any manual-transmission truck from the era. But keep in mind that in 85, they changed the clutch setup from manual to hydraulic. If you go hydraulic, the brake booster is different among other things. I personally am just keeping the manual clutch...

Re: SLOW 1975 Stepside Build SLOW

A little update. I'm getting the rest of the 75's small stuff for the engine bay por'd.
Going to see a guy to buy the 454 front alt and power steering brackets this weekend.

But the big news is that I scored both front MINT original GM front 73-80 fenders. GM tags still on them.

AND I DIDNT PAY A SINGLE CENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He want to only trade. So I gave him a 80's tilt column, 2 80's drivers doors and a 80 driver front and inner fender!

Im having a problem loading the other pics.

Re: SLOW 1975 Stepside Build SLOW

I found my 454 front alt and power steering brackets and por'd them. Man I love that stuff.

Now I just need to find 73-74 triangle headlight supports for the grill

I was going to but a edelbrock TM2r intake off of craigslist but I really don't know to much about them. The RPM range is good for what I need but that's all I know.

Next Im going to order matting for the inside cab and start on interior stuff.

Re: SLOW 1975 Stepside Build SLOW

Well I was able to get the outside grill brackets for the 74 grill. Swapped everything over and looks good.
I didn't install the upper grill trim yet(can get myself to do it just yet).

I also scored a New BB 4 core brass/copper for 150.00 I debated for awhile until I found out how much it is to rebuild a 2row brass/copper---300.00. So a 150 was a no brainer!

I also found a guy on CL that wanted to trade his MINT 80's blazer seats from is 87 for a plain bench seat. Yes trade! Couldn't believe it and he gave me 20.00 for gas.
