Need electrical HELP!
Im about to run to the parts store and I need help before I go.
I just installed electric fans in my 79 but Alternator cant keep up, any advice on what's the better size I should be running? Figured some of you might have switched to electrical fans and know first hand. And more importantly, I have no blinkers or brake lights. I have running or parking lights, but when I press the brake pedal nothing. I checked the switch and it works, and has power going to it. Also blinkers don't do anything when I use them but I have hazards. I am lost, all my fuses are good. any advice?

IF you are serious about this, then go to the TUFFSTUFF website and then call them to order one of their heavy duty alternators.
The standard alternator for our trucks are not 140 amp units and they only carry about 35 amps output at an idle condition on the engine, so loading them up overworks them severely. If you want to have plenty of power choose a 100 amp or larger and then through Tuff Stuff, get one of their alternators that handles 80 amps at an idle condition. That is when those electric fans will want to run the most. If you have a stereo and possibly air conditioning, that is just more load for the alternator. I have a 140 amp alternator from them on several vehicles in my garage and I am NOT sorry that I purchased them. Tuffstuff is a good company and they will give you a lot of info and then you can go to Summit Racing and purchase the product at a fair price. JEGS carries Tuffstuff products also, but I got burned by them so they do not get my vote. They have alternators in standard and chrome finishes. I have had mine for a long time and they are still handling the loads without issue. The attached pictures are from my 84 GMC and my 91 Silverado. Both have dual 11" electric fans from SPAL, stereos with amps, and air conditioning and there are no charging issues with them.

Please note quality will cost some money, but in the end you win, due to not having to fight the mess and buy several other alternators. I do not like rebuilt alternators and starters, too much pain in the longevity of the rebuild and I don't like doing the work more than once.

The brake lights run through the turnsignal switch in the column.
The replacement AC-Delco switch assembly is usually fairly inexpensive. If you replace the switch make sure the plastic wire guide stays in place and the wires run through it to keep them from getting damaged.

7194-6-3 Both of these will work for you and are 94 amp. FYI-you may need to switch the pulley. if you need a lookup choose a 1984 Camaro HO-305.

Are you aware there's separate flashers for 4 way flashers and turn signals?

The brake lights are dead too and power is getting through the pedal switch. That points to the turnsignal switch itself. The brake lights run through the turnsignal switch because the rear turn bulbs are shared with the brake lights.

how are the fans wired and what kind if fans are they. the fans shouldnt pull enough to hurt it. ls1 fans only pull about 60 amps and they only run at that with ac on at full blast. proper relay is needed. if your running them full blast all the time with no relay your not set up right. most of the time they only pull about 35 amps. your alt could be on its last legs or the battery. my lesabres batt was on its last leg and the car wouldnt burn the headlights or anything had to drive it home with no lights in the dark on the shoulder one night. but i did have tail lights.
