Any point keeping non functioning AC unit under the hood?

As per picture, unit is obviously disconnected and I don't really need and AC unit here. If I remove it is there a bunch of other stuff that would need to come out with it or things I need to be aware of?

Its your blower motor case for your heat and ac. While the ac stuff is useless with out the box you won't have heat and you'll have a big hole in your fire wall. I removed mine and tossed it and bought a whole heat only setup only to fine out the firewalls are different between the two optioned trucks. So now I have a big hole in my firewall and no heat lol

Aaah well the heater works fine so I'll keep it then. What are the two disconnected hoses? where did they go to?

Those are for the ac. One line ran to the condenser in front of the radiator the other to the compressor.

hmm so i can probably clear out some condenser stuff too. That clarifies what some of the tubing that is disconnected in front of the radiator is also that i was wondering about.

As long as the water lines are running from the motor to the heater core, there is nothing else you would need to keep in the engine bay. Take a look at some of the heater only guys. Their rigs show how clean you can attempt to make a heat only vehicle using stock parts. That's not to say a stock heater box will bolt in, I am completely unsure of that for 73-87's.

They do not bolt up. Could be possible with a little creativity tho

like the idea of having a cleaner / minimalist engine bay for sure. any pics out there of what can be acheived? This would of course be a loooong term goal after i get suspension and transmission and interior all sorted out - but hey I've got 20 years

I'm pretty sure I read in another thread that the firewalls are different between AC and non-AC trucks so you'd have to patch the one hole then cut another to switch. Someone had posted pics so you could see the difference, but I don't recall the thread I was reading.

yes they are different boxes,i used the AC dash vents on the heat setting,sure helps get warm faster,switch back to defrost as needed
non AC trucks have two foot vents AC have only one pass side
AC trucks use engine vac for moving the controls, non AC use cables
