5 lug to 6 lug

Before anyone yells at me for not reading the conversion section, I did read it. Maybe I didn't read it close enough or something. Point is, I already have disc brakes on the front of my truck, it came like that when I bought it last August. Yay, right? Well maybe not. Because they're 5 lug and the back are 6 lug. Not great if my spare is a 5 or 6 and it won't fit the one that blows on me (karma's been working like that recently). So I don't know what kind of brakes I have, or the ones that I can switch to. For your convenience, some pictures.

In no particular order, the words on the side read :
24 (dot used for multiplication in math goes here) 5, 14008847, D15, K5, MINTHICK
Can anyone help?

Re: 5 lug to 6 lug

Looks like a 73-87 front end with rubber a-arm bushings.

What is your plan?
Add aftermarket 6-lug rotors to the front?
Or add 5-lug axles to the back?

Re: 5 lug to 6 lug

If you have 1.25" wide rotors now,... all you need are these:

Re: 5 lug to 6 lug

lolife I was planning on keeping the back 6 lug, changing the fronts to 6. So when the temperature gets to the 20s and stays there for a little bit, I'll measure the rotor width.

Re: 5 lug to 6 lug

I Never could find these but supposedly there are some mid 80's front brake rotors that have 6 lugs.......find a napa store with a old timer at the parts counter, maybe they can find them.......the 5 lug hubs and rotors you have are only $17.00 each new at Autozone....or O'reileys......Kieth

ps I never could find them-------------some where on this forum another guy did find them.....

You do realize you will not be able to use stock 6 lug wheels with the disc brakes. The least expensive option is to have your rear axles drilled for 5 lug brake drums (and the center hub turned down) I had them done for 100.00 and I provided the studs and brake drums.

you can see the modifications here, just click on the thumbnails to see the progression of changes. Kieth

I know of no oem direct fit 6-lug rotor for the 71-87 spindle or any of the conversion spindles.

The closest thing is a swap I don't really care for.
Uses 88-98 light duty 2500 spindles and rotors.
This swap requires you to switch to 88-98 balljoints, outer tie rods and a 63-87 3/4-ton lower a-arm to allow you to use the larger 88-98 lower ball joint.

Re: 5 lug to 6 lug

Look for a 6 lug rotor/hub from a 1988 C2500 truck. They use the same front wheel bearings. I'm not for sure if your caliper will line up though, but it's worth a try.
