How much to have 700 R4 installed

I'm going to have to change out the tranny - it's pi$$ing fluid all over and rattles and grinds like nobody's business - to have the leaks stopped is several hours work and several hours work may as well be done installing a new one. This is NOT something that I could tackle myself at all. Question is how much should i be paying for it on top of the cost of the transmission itself? How long does it take? Another question is, currently vehicle has 4" lift. When I lower it back to stock, will there need to be further work on the transmission as the distance to the Rear axle will shorten very slightly?

I'm guessing at least $300 to $400 over the price of the new tranny.

Thats indicating it s a 5 -7 hour job maybe? Can I ask what is the ballpark hourly rate is where you are? Here it is $85 or $120 depending upon where you go so this would be about $500 to $700 extra here

I'm sure prices will run a little higher in CA over AL, but still I'm probably low. I found out the other day the tranny guy I know gets $700 to rebuild a TH350 now - blew my mind... I think rates are around $70/hr here.

I think if you call around the difference between a carry-in transmission and the full remove/replace isn't that big. Here in Missouri you can get a 2wd 700r4 rebuilt and R&R'd for $700-800. I would expect to pay more like $1200 for a 4wd at a larger shop.
