electrical demons
so my dad's 87 burb needs an exorcist. the thing that worked last before he died and the burb rolled its eyes back also where turning the blinker on left and pulling out the light switch to get a spark.
yesterday my brother and myself tried starting the beast and nothing. could not get a spark from anything, the engine turns over, but all we do is flood the engine becuase its not sparking. i remember my old man saying the mother board was fried or something. and the whole wiring harness is done. is it possible to cut some of the wiring out of the burb? i know about the power windows and such. but is there anything that can help two kids fight these electrical demons? thanks guys. |

Re: electrical demons
I'm far from a wiring expert and would probably rather have rust than an electrical gremlin. But as for cutting out existing factory wiring, I'd get a factory service manual and go through the trouble shooting sections before I'd ever do that.

Re: electrical demons
On the subject of wiring. I personally HATE the spaghetti style and the crazed odd wire here and there look under the hood. I have seen complete wiring harnesses for sale. How hard would it be to install a brand new wiring harness from scratch. I am handy in the house in terms of fitting reccessed lighting, changing out electrical items, components etc but never have touched auto wiring before. Is this a "use common sense and time" thing or a "stay away at all costs and get a pro to do it" thing? I am going to be redoing the interior out shortly so was thinking this would be the time to do it.

Re: electrical demons
Any advice on this from those who know? Is changing out the wiring harness it a feasible project without specialist tools and skills?
