I might have to sell my truck
I tore my bicep tendon and my rotator cuff about six weeks ago. Between the surgery and physical therapy the medical bills are adding up. I hope I don't have to sell. If I do I'm thinking I want $13,000. What do you guys think?

Re: I might have to sell my truck
Medical bills are negotiable. I am not saying you shouldn't sell your truck to pay bills off. What I am saying is that it doesn't hurt to ask. If you owe $10,000, but you only have $5,000, walk into their payment office, ask to speak to a supervisor, and explain that you don't have $10,000. Tell them you have $5,000, and you will give them everything you have at that moment if they give you a letter saying your account has been paid in full.

What he said ^.
Also, though, I imagine you are looking at lost work time... But insurance can no longer deny you for preexisting conditions if you don't have it. |

Re: I might have to sell my truck
if you already have a mortgage and dont need any loans in the near future you can push those bills off awhile ok not a great idea.
I think you have a 13k truck. |

Re: I might have to sell my truck
If you can't give them a lump sum to buy down your debt, they can put you on a payment plan. Just ask. If they say no, make payments anyway and keep your truck. If your paying them something regularly they won't come after you for non- payment.

Re: I might have to sell my truck
Sorry to hear about your medical/financial situation. I see you are in Missouri. If trucks rust there like they do here in Michigan, than I think you would have a tough time replacing a beauty like that for only $13K, or whatever a buyer may give. I'd try hard to find another way, but I don't know, maybe you're ready to let that one go and move on... It's really up to you. My opinion on the truck is from just a couple pics would be that its worth all of what you mentioned.

Re: I might have to sell my truck
Trust me there is always another problem there is not always another truck. you worked a while to get that one didn't you? It will be harder with a hurt arm, although it will heal. I am not trying to bring you down your probably been down enough already. I'm just saying every time I get rid of some thing to pay some thing thinking I can make it back up I just get farther behind and I think the whole country is the same way. Hopefully for your sake your not in my boat. Hope it works in in your favor and you have a speedy recovery. Jim

Man Mike, that is a tough call. I have seen Mike's truck in person and it is a beauty. I would hold off as long as you can. I tore my right arm bicep 4 or 5 years ago and believe it or not I can do almost anything I could do before. I didn't have any rotator cuff damage though so that may be a different story. You do what you have to do but I would explore other avenues as suggested. Good luck to you my friend and keep your head up.... LockDoc

Re: I might have to sell my truck
I'm lucky because I have medical insurance and insurance that pays 85% of my wages. I'm just looking ahead just in case. I still have atleast 4 months of therapy.

Re: I might have to sell my truck
Your truck is beautiful and would be hard to build for that amount ,I would not sell it .Mine will look very similar to yours when done and it cost me considerably more than that to build it . Good luck on your recovery and I hope you get to keep it .

Re: I might have to sell my truck
Mike, you need to be more careful. A couple years ago you tore up your knee. Now your shoulder? How are you going to help me swap beds now?
I've been wondering how you were doing since I hadn't seen you on the board for awhile. I'll give you a call in next few days. Get well my friend. I'm sure everything will work out just fine for you.

Re: I might have to sell my truck
Sorry to hear the bad news Mike. I hope you do not have to sell your truck. It would be very hard to replace that one.

Re: I might have to sell my truck
Sorry to hear about your medical issue. I went through shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, subscapularis tear and detached bicep tendon. I feel your pain. It would be sad if you had to sell your truck over it. In my neck of the woods you would have no problem getting that price for your truck. Best of luck and speedy recovery.

Re: I might have to sell my truck
As 71swb4x4 said, medical bills are negotiable. If I were you, I would sell a kidney before I sold your truck. Your truck is too nice to let go.
As far as your doc, did you get a second opinion? If not, do so. Also ask both docs if surgery can be temporarily delayed by doing physical therapy? What type of surgery would it be? Would they cut you open or is it arthroscopic (surgery through holes)? I good friend of mine developed arthroscopic shoulder surgery and he has taught others to do this all over the world. This type of surgery is frequently much cheaper than regular surgery and rehab time is greatly reduced. Check out www.shoulder.com for more info. It is set up for mostly doctors but does give some good info for us commoners as well. In most cases, if you are making regular payments, even if it is only $1 a month, the hospital cannot do anything to make you pay more than that. If I were you, I would walk in, say I have so much in cash, and need the surgery to happen for that amount. Chances are, the hospital will work with you to try and get you to that price. If that hospital won't, go find one that will. Seriously.

Re: I might have to sell my truck
I had both rotator cuffs done and need to have them looked at again. Good luck to you and I hope you get to keep your truck. I think $13k is too cheap for that beauty.
