Lowering Question
I am getting ready to lower my 51 3100. In the process of changing out the rear differential fluid I discovered that the previous owner most likely changed out the rear end and put in a rear end from a 58.
Was considering using 3" blocks in the back that I can order from chevyofthe40s.com for a 51 but I am concerned that they will not work on the 58 rear end. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on the blocks or other ways? Thanks Andy |

More than likely they just swapped the center section of the rearend. The 55 and newer were spring over. The AD trucks were spring under with a torque tube. The AD trucks had their own proprietey brackets welded to the axle, so I doubt he changed the whole rearend.
To answer your question, yes the blocks will work. |

Thanks alot guys. You are right whitedog. The brackets for the springs are welded to the axle. Sounds like that is what they might have done. This may not be a smart question but why would they have done this swap?
