I don't think these are extremely rare in comparison to any other dealer installed accessory. You don't find them that often. Bumper guards are more popular. Perhaps there is more of an association with installation on a 4x4.
The one in San Antonio is for a 60-61 as it is not notched for the grill that sits closer to the bumper in 62-66. The one you have is for 62-66. Something I learned from this site. No they never came chromed, I cheated, but I like how it looks.

I have never understood the appeal of those things.
To me, our front grilles are too beautiful to hide them behind a guard.
