The I am sick of working on my truck thread
I am tired of working on this thing, I am almost to the point of dropping 10K and all my parts off at the paint shop. Bead blast, paint, sand, paint, bondo , paint, boooring.

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
You're either devoted to the build or not, gotta make that decision when you start. I wish I had a dime for every time I heard someone say " This is costing way more than I thought"
Recently talked to a guy that complained that it was costing more than $600 to install cab corners, rockers, kick panels and floors in his truck. I think he was stuck in the 60s ! |

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
I might hit that point at sometime, but not soon. Bought this truck at a difficult time in my life, and it was like therapy then, and now I am getting so close to being back on the road, hopefully. I don't think I will ever sell it, I am too attached. Of course, I have done minimal body work and only painted with Rustoleum rolled on and spray bombs.

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
The downside to that solution is you never know for sure what you'll get back. I dropped mine off a few years ago to a body shop that got great reviews, just to have NOS rockers installed. They did so much damage to the truck I couldn't go near it for several months and nearly sold it I was so despondent.
After enough time I started missing the experience of driving it, and dove back in, fixed everything and reassured myself I'd never sell it, and never go through that again either!

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
Put the cab on the chassis, throw a blanket over it all and park that low mile Chevelle in its spot for the summer. Get your Hot Rod on And when fall comes, park the Chevelle and get back on the truck during those dark rainy NW nights when nothing is on TV. Its not Overhaulin or some other 40 guy build in a week for $60k its therapy and you will feel a lot better at the end of the project than you do now. Its going to be a super cool truck when YOU are done with it.

I've been at this for 13 years, better than sitting in a bar. and cheaper too.

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
That is why I approach all my restorations as hobby projects.
I never actually needed my old cars/trucks as transportation, although they have filled that role in emergencies in the past. I work on them when the weather is nice and I have the time and cash, and I admire them as lawn art the rest of the time. I have only gotten tired of an old vehicle once everything was repaired that needed it and there was nothing left to change. And once they are gone I miss them like children! In the perfect world we would all have enough money and garage space to keep every car we have ever owned.

An old truck is like a marriage.
You can always find something that needs tending to!

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
If I spent as much time with my wife as I do with my truck, I'd be sick of her too.

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
Thanks! Nice truck you got there, too; my father hates the 60-61 front end, but I've always liked them a lot.
BTW, I'm rebuilding a 292 to go in this one right now. |

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
I am right there with you. I am working on the worst cab EVER! or so I am convinced. I continue to find something else wrong with it. The just attempted to cover it up with sheet metal, screws, and tar. Should have scrapped it, but have too much money in sheet metal and countless hours and too many cuts to turn back now.

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
well ima tell you what i did. i started weldin the floor and wanted it to be flawless under the mat and looking from below well many yrs later. i just yesterday finishd the welding and started to "contour" my weld so it apears to be no work done and put the first coat a shorthair glass in various spots so dont give up and cheap it out with less the good work, lest its a beater cuz when u drive it ur gonna kick urself from the shortcuts. dont get me wrong ive turned a few corners myself, but not so many that its obvious. just cuss the heck outofit and dream of that day when u will be watching other folks drool over ur work...

Re: The I am sick of working on my truck thread
I've certainly thought about it! It would be a fun little project if I come up with a turbo somewhere.
