Need opinion on wheel color.
Hi all,
I am finally going to get back on this project. I have a set of 15x8 stock type steel wheels that I have moon caps and trim rings for. I am trying to decide what color to paint the wheels. Right now the two choices I am thinks are either white (same color as roof) or red. I am thinking of using wide white wall tires but haven't full committed to that. Interior is likely going to be tan or red (wheel color might decide that choice). Here's the wheel (without cap and ring) Here's the panel, Thoughts, comments, ideas???

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
If you go with wide whites I'd stay away from white rims.
If you go with black wall tires...I'd go with white rims.

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
since theres alot of color(blue) id break it up with the white rims, to match the top and i like wide whites, but then again if your running hubcaps the blackwalls would like nicer... but white rims fersure!!!

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
For reference here is a pic of the stock steel wheel off of my 67 with eastwood bright red powder and coker wide whites.... not sure how they would look on blue. The trim rings may break it up enough for you to run wide whites on white wheels but you may have to mock one up to be sure.
Another option would be to run skinny whitewalls with the rings and caps like this...

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
White top, white wheels. Blue would be too much blue IMO and black is too dark for that blue, I think the darker the car the lighter the wheel color. Might also try a silver... but with the roof white I vote white.

White rims with white wall tires. No Beauty ring, but put on the center cap (Baby Moon)... I saw it once before and it looked really good. Tried to find the picture I saw but didn't... If I find it ill post it up.

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
I like the blue with white walls actually!
My second choice would be white with a thin whitewall, with ample black rubber between. Could even do a body color trim ring which might looks nice. Red on the wheels on almost anything makes me think "Fire Truck." Not sure why. |

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
Man this looks awesome!
Maybe the red would work with the blue on the panel...

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
Thanks for the input and keep it coming. Myself, I do not care for thin white walls. Go big or go home when it comes to white walls.
I agree, there is too much blue to paint them blue to match the body. I am thinking of white scollops with red pin stripping to help break up all the blue. I am liking that blue truck posted above with the red wheels. I think I have to agree with others, if black wall tires, white wheels, if white wall tires, red wheels. I am dropping the wheels off this week to have the blasted and epoxy primed. Then I can have my paint guy spray them once I decide.

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
Since your askin' for opinions. I would loose the trim rings, so more red would show. I like thin white walls better too FWIW wide whites are more 50's style, you have a 60's truck.
good luck

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
IMO, this set up shown by 1963c-10, but in red, should look great. The thin ring expose more color, but it's your choice. It will look nice anyway.

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
I got those rings from Bow Tie Bits a few years ago. They fit great on the 3 bump rims, but were a tad loose on the 4 bump rims, so I ordered new rings for the 4 bump rims in the pic. The new rings close the paint gap at the tire, but they are tight. I put the rings in the pic above back on the 3 bump rims to go on the fleetside.

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
Photoshop the blue wheel on it and see.
I think the black looked better then the red. However I'm thinking the blue would look real good.

I agree, with the color blue you have, the blue rims with wide whites, trim rings and caps. Your color blue doesn't really lend itself to scallops or stripping. Clean and classy. Just my opinion. |

Re: Need opinion on wheel color.
Yeah, I already have the ring and center caps. As for narrow whites, I have never cared for them personally. I have seen them look good on the right app but I couldn't bring myself to buy them.
Also, I am thinking of doing white scollops with red pin stripping, to give it a more 50's/custom vibe. Maybe that will help give a visual on what I am trying to do. Thanks for all the opinions and keep them coming!

Why do you care what anybody else thinks? Do what you like. You're the one that has to live with it.
