Converting TH400 auto to NV440 manual
I am collecting parts for my 1966 C-10. In the fall I am planning on changing over from a TH400 auto to a NP440 manual.
My truck had the stock transmision crossmember removed by the PO, so I will be using a rear tranny mount from the auto moved to the new location for the manual trans. So I have to use an aluminum bellhousing instead of a cast iron one, or should I use the cast iron stock bellhousing without the bellhousing mounts? I will have to get the different starter too. I have found the following bellhousing for a good price: #460486 SB & BB with 5 1/8” center hole Ball boss Aluminum 12” clutch 168 tooth flywheel My question for you experts is can I use the stock cast clutch fork with the aluminum bell housing? The rest of the clutch lingage will be stock 1966 as well. I did a search and did not see this info. Straighten me out if I have some of this info wrong please.

Re: Converting TH400 auto to NV440 manual
Does anyone have this info?
Can I use an aluminum truck bellhousing with the 1966 truck cast clutch fork? I thought I would simplify the question. Thanks in advance.

Re: Converting TH400 auto to NV440 manual
I think you can go either way. The NP440 has the rear mount bolt holes so that option is available to you.
I used the cast iron bell housing with this tranny in my truck and the stock crossmember in its original placement and it's worked out fine without using the rear support. I am using the hydraulic clutch though...

Re: Converting TH400 auto to NV440 manual
Has anyone used an aluminum bell instead of the iron bell? If so what clutch fork are you using?
I'm starting to think that the iron bell is the simplest way to go with an added on rear tranny crossmember, since my original crossmember is long gone from the PO's hack of my truck. I can use the rear crossmember from my TH400 and just reposition it.

Re: Converting TH400 auto to NV440 manual
The swap has been put on hold while I am waiting for my new house to be built. I am still planning to do the swap this summer. I have most parts sourced or in hand except for the driveshaft.
I will start posting on this as things progress. Thanks )bone(
