New here with a 65
Hi all, my name is Jason and I'm from Delaware. I'm currently deployed to Kuwait but I had my dad pick up this 1965 from Tennessee for me recently. My dad restored a 66 before I was old enough to remember and unfortunately had to sell it so this body style has always held a spot in my heart. Of course this was a too good to be true "rust free" or "what rust was there was cut out and replaced" but I'll hopefully be getting a rust free cab sent from Arizona. The rockers that were replaced weren't stock rockers and no longer have the lower body line and the floorboards were replaced a long time ago with something other than replacement pans. I plan on doing a frame off restoration when I get home and making it my daily driver. I plan on replacing the wiring harness, upgrading it with modern amenities such as ac, power windows/locks/steering and a nice stereo setup and swapping the current engine with a 5.3 vortec and 4 speed. I'm thinking of going with a cpp 4 wheel disc brake upgrade, swapping to 5 lug, and going with a 4/6 drop with tubular control arms and doing the ece trailing arm and crossmember upgrade and an 18/20 wheel combo with a 275/315 tire setup. I would imagine it will handle pretty well after the upgrades. I still have a couple months before I get home but am extremely excited to get to work on it and get my dad out in it.

Love the six banger, especially that intake. I notice the back bumper is chrome and the front is painted. Are you going to change that? Nice lookin' truck, though. Thank you for your service.

Re: New here with a 65
Thanks for all the support guys!
I'm thinking of painting it a charcoal like the first truck and painting the Chevrolet on the tailgate black and painting inside the side molding black and wheels like the lighter truck. I will be going to chrome bumpers and I want to get a 90ish seat and recover like my cousin did in his 69 but black leather with a charcoal suede inlay. |
