Pics of SBC with A/C and P/S
Looking for some pics of SBC with air and p/s. I haven't purchased my A/C yet but I'm trying to make sure I locate my compressor, p/s pump and alternator in the correct locations. Thanks for the help.

not saying anything on truk is correct, just the way i did it.
i wanted the ac compressor down low, sort of stealth ac i fabbed all of the brackets, they are stupid expensive when you figure you need 3 minimum. ps bracket is 2 plates and some tubing spacers my ac is a little industrial looking, but it works and has a heim joint tensioner on it i had the alt arm and modified it to work on the bracket

My '51 project has a GM Vortec 5.7, I opted for using the factory stock Alt and A/C brackets and units, mainly because they work, parts/belts/bolts and whatever are easily found almost everywhere, and are fairly inexpensive to fix or replace.
I also have 2 '96/'97 GMC 5.7 work vehicles with a combined 480K, and the heads nor pan have never been off either - and they are still at work hard. For the '51 I rebuilt, replaced or cleaned everything, but it is going to be a driver, not a trailer boxed show truck, but maybe that will make a diff to some. pics on my sig page. |

Here is mine. PS pump uses a stock long water pump bracket with the adjustment modified to attach to the exhaust manifold bolt. Alternator uses the stock rams horn mount, modified for the long water pump. I lengthened the adjustment arm to show off the valve covers a little better. I made my AC bracket, the aftermarket ones seem to big and clunky and become the focal point, not the engine. I also learned along the way that two groove and three groove stock crank and water pump pulleys come in matched sets and cannot be interchanged, diameter and offset are different. Also learned that BB pulleys may have the same bolt pattern but will not work either.

There are a batch of variables involved in deciding what setup you use and the first is the truck you have. Advance Design and Task Force trucks have quite different engine compartments and while you can spread things out a bit to the sides on a TF you are pretty well stuck with having the alternator and AC compressor on top of the engine on an AD truck. The TF trucks have a ton or room between the radiator and block for a log water pump and accessories while it gets pretty cramped with an AD truck and a lot of guys stay with a short pump on an AD truck requiring different pieces.
Welcome to the board. It always helps in getting the right answer if you post what you have or or working on and a bit of background info on the install. Orrie and Ogre are die hard Taskforce guys and almost always thing everyone has a TF truck while a few of us others always seem to answer the questions as they would relate to an Advanced Design truck. You will see several of us with our trucks listed in our signature and that helps someone know what we are working on too.

Good point about posting info on the truck you have. I own a TF, but grew up with mostly AD and prewar Chevys, plus a few Jeeps and VW's thrown in the mix. My first truck was 47 ford, but I saw the light and switched to a 57 TF. You are right about the AD engine compartment, less room side to side because the frame narrows down. Short and Long WP require different pulley sets. And if you get into the later LS type engines with the serpentine belts things get totally different, reverse flow WP, etc.

Yeah, sorry about not including that info. I have a 54 5 window that I'm restoring from the frame up. Frame is being sandblasted right now but I mocked up motor and tranny before I removed the cab. Engine is a 400 sbc with a 700r4 tranny. I have a long water pump on it right now but may have to change it to a short. Thoughts?

Orge = engineer Me = architect. Nuff said. Close bolt tolerances and triangulation keeps it from moving.

Here's a pic that shows my set up. AC, alt, and ps, and used a short waterpump. I used alan grove brackets for mine. It's on a 50 AD, hope this helps...Jim

Hi doublek, and welcome aboard! My setup is a lot like oldman3's. It's a Vintage Air generic Compact Gen II. I used a Billet Specialties bracket set (p/n 10120). I paid a ridiculous $149 for the bracket, and now it's up to $210 at Summit! Here's an interesting drawing that B.S. provides:
http://www.billetspecialties.com/assets/1/7/101201.pdf One of the problems that I had was that I'm using hump heads that have no accessory mounting holes, and I don't care for the brackets that hang off of the headers. Mine on my '46 is a '93 TBI unit, these are also reverse rotation water pump, you can buy a reverse pitch fan. You can also use the long water pump, I had one on my '54 AD.

like orrieg mentioned, you need to triangulate everything. i add a little beef on the brackets to eliminate flex. maybe a little overkill, as mentioned the enginerd in me for mounting holes: use what you have; holes in the head, block and bolts in the water pump and headers. look at where my ps pump is bolted and orrieg's motor mount. all sbc have this bolt boss, may not be a hole but they are easily drilled. brackets can get stupid expensive when you pay $50 to $150 each times 3 they are also some of the easiest pieces to fabricate. start with a mount on the accessory, figure out how to attach and go from there. don't be afraid to make a r&d bracket and make the finished bracket from there. if anyone wants an alan grove ac bracket for cheap i have one posted in the classified section. i wanted my ac a little lower than the bracket that va supplied. and who is this orge guy someone keeps referring too?

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm assuming that I can keep my long water pump. I'm going to install an electric fan and I was just a little worried about clearance. I hate to order brackets to fit my lwp and it not work for some reason and I have to spend all that money again for swp brackets.

Long water pump may not work. Alan Grove brackets are VERY nice. They are what I used.
