water pump....wierd...wtf???
so i went to the veterans affairs office this mooring, when i got there i looked under my truck and it was leaking coolant, so i pop the hood of course, and it was leaking coolant from the bearing in the water pump, so i took a chance and drove it home and it wasn't leaking...is this a common issue?

Re: water pump....wierd...wtf???
yeah that's where they die. when the truck goes from a hot,run to a hot, off the pressure in the tank builds (no airflow through the rad) and then it leaks. bummer in the summer.

Re: water pump....wierd...wtf???
so i need a new water pump? it does need a new thermostat, its stuck open so it hasn't been running hot, i should have plenty of air coming through the rad, it did it after highway driving

Re: water pump....wierd...wtf???
yes, the shaft seal has failed. a new pump is in order.
new thermostat yup, they're cheap. you running a purge tank? highly recommend one on any vehicle. proper psi cap is another key. |

Re: water pump....wierd...wtf???
15 psi is stock, and what I used. They do go bad, but usually they pop at a lower pressure rather than a higher one. Cheap enough to just do it.

Re: water pump....wierd...wtf???
nah, not really. the gaskets are like the other gaskets on the motor steel core with a neoprene sealing edge. $5 each and you will need two.

That would also mean that 3rd party stats (like the 160*s) wouldn't fit any pump other than the original one. Did you have this problem? I'm curious what didn't fit, and by how much.

Re: water pump....wierd...wtf???
so i started my truck and drove it around a bit, now its now leaking....wtf???? so freaking weird!!!! it makes sense about the rad tho I'm pretty sure that its not holding pressure so that would explain the low pressure leak...but still makes me mad tho

Re: water pump....wierd...wtf???
so, my water pump isn't leaking anymore, should i still get a new water pump, radiator, and thermostat? getting ready to fix this, can i re-use the metal gasket on the water pump instead of the cheap ones you get from the new water pump?

Re: water pump....wierd...wtf???
If it was leaking replace it. Do not reuse the gaskets
