My 1966 C10 was lowered sometime in the past by heating the springs. Now I am not a fan of super lowered trucks but it sits fairly level, and will be better when I replace the wood in the bed. Question is. Just what effect will the heat lowered springs have on other aspects of the truck, handling etc? Were they weakened by the heating process? If I at some point replace them should I look to the aftermarket for good springs. This is some ways off as I am concentrating on the motor and getting it back on the road. Thanks truck lovers.

Heating and cutting springs is a thing of the past IMO. Heating is the worst way to go. They become weaker and will give you a rougher ride. After time they could settle more and more and the ride will become worse. New are cheap enough but with the add on's needed to make them work properly sometimes it takes a while to get them with a tight budget. But doing it right and safe is the way to go.

The coils are heat treated in the manufacturing process to make them elastic and to give them strength. Heating the coil to lower the vehicle height removes the temper and the elasticity from the coil and could cause it to collapse with the wrong weight or force on it.
Spend the money and get a good quality set of springs at the ride height you want. I don't advise cutting costs on suspension or brake components.
