4WD popping out of gear
I was towing my jet ski this weekend and it was runnign fine until we got off hte highway. Then all of a sudden I lost all gears. Turns out my transfer case had popped into neutral. I put back in 2WD High and started down the road but as soon as I let off the gas it popped into neutral again. I put back in 2H only to have it do it again.
I wound up driving to the lake while holding the 4WD shift lever in one had to make sure it did not pop out. Spent the day on the lake and drve home and it never popped out of gear again. My truck is a '73, 350, 700R4 automatic. Any ideas?

Re: 4WD popping out of gear
Not sure but I just called my tranny guy at CDO Trans (the guy who swapped my TH350 to the 700 R4) and he is going to check it out for me. He said it coudl be a mount.

Re: 4WD popping out of gear
Its probably a 208 t-case, sounds like the same issue I had with a truck at work back in 2005 or so, it was a 400/208, doing down road at 55mph and it went into a neutral, if I recall the shifter didn't move though. 2wd and 4hi worked sometimes but would pop out. 4lo was the only gear that it would stay in. I believe its from worn internals in the tcase, shift forks or something. Hopefully your issue is somthing else. I ended up buying this truck from the place I work and to this day am still using it for plowing...tcase was never apart to fix it but I do two driveways and use 4hi and it stays in so far.
