1965 SWB 4x4 Production #s
Does anyone know how many 1964-1966 Short bed 4x4 trucks were built. A friend of mine found one about 3 weeks ago and picked it up at a small car lot. He paid $5000 for it. It seems to have 95000 original miles. The body has some rust but the cab is very nice and waxed up the patina is great. He wants to replace the sheet metal as he finds it. It runs great with a 292 engine. Everything works except the shifter has no real neutral. Possibly the detent spring is bad. I was unsure of the production since i have only seen a few short bed 4x4s.

1964 = ?
1965 = 633 1966 = 678 These are numbers that were posted on another website. 1966 unmolested worth the most since this was the last year for the body style. |

Wow these are low numbers. He is wanting to eventually do a ground up on it. The frame is very nice and everything is still unmolested.Thanks for the info.

Need to see some pictures of it. Also just noticed that we are almost neighbors.

Production numbers are only shown for 1965 and 1966. (K10)= Short Bed 4x4 (K15) = Long Bed 4x4. Here is a link http://reocities.com/MotorCity/speed...roduction1.htm

I have a '65 K10 short step (or at least I think it's supposed to be a short step) and I'm shocked by the low numbers, if they are in fact accurate. Mine is such a hodgepodge at this point that it isn't a restoration candidate.

Chris is building a short wide 64 pickup show quality. He happened upon this truck and plans to just gather parts and clean it up then some day restore it. We have done 1967-72 trucks since 1978 and just recently decided to tackle these earlier trucks. They are a bit harder to get information .

Re: 1965 SWB 4x4 Production #s
Jimal see if the Serial Number of the cab matches the Serial Number of your frame, if the S/N matches that will tell you if the cab is original to the frame. The S/N will tell you the correct year,1/2 or 3/4 ton, 2 or 4 wheel drive, long or short wheelbase, cab and pickup box or cab and chassis and the plant where the truck was manufactured take a look at the GVW data plate that will tell you the color and if it has standard trim or custom. This information should give you some direction for your restoration.

This is what I found on the frame rail in the location indicated in the FAQ, 6T. Could be a GMC frame. Who knows? I'm not too worried about it. |
