4 speed tranny oil

I have a 4 speed that is making alot of noise not grinding but noisy, is there a way to check the trans oil? I am new to the standards and not familliar with them. Thanks. Its in a 65 c10 but not sure if its original to truck.

there is a square headed pipe plug about 1/3 up from the bottom on one side or the other take it out stick your little finger in there and see if you feel any oil it should be right up to that plug but if it has not been looked at for YEARS then it may be down some or OUT it takes 80/90 gear oil

Thanks alot, I checked it and it was def dry or at least not up enough to wet my pinky, put the oil in and now way quieter.
