New here...my '70 C10 build
For as long as I can remember I have wanted a C10. My boyfriend and I have been looking for a good 6 months for a decent deal on one with no luck. Well about a month ago, we found one less than 15 miles from our house...and it was in amazing shape! Here is the day we bought it:
![]() ![]() ![]() Someone did a quick restore of the truck, so the paint is a 6 at best, but it's a good base for a driver which is what we want. It's a factory tach and A/C truck (although there is no A/C currently). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The truck is actually in really good condition. There is one rust spot and it's in the fender well, so no big deal there. The underneath isn't pretty and the panhard bar is suuuuper bent, but all and all, it's not really THAT bad. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We have changed exactly 5 things on the truck so far. Amber blinker lenses (I like them better than clear), ignition On/Off plate, steering wheel, of course you have to have a window sticker, and we took the huge rear bumper off as we will be replacing that. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As far as plans for the truck goes, we will pretty much be changing everything about the truck other than the body. We are leaving that alone. We have ordered full front and rear suspension from Roadster Shop that should be here by September 1st. According to those guys, other than the 2 trucks they have built, we will be the first to sport their suspension for these trucks. SUPER excited to see it. We went ahead and upgraded to Penske shocks, Wilwood brakes and Strange 9" and axles. We are LS swapping the truck, most likely we will go with a 6.2L and it will be a turbo build. We already have a Borg Warner S400SX T6 for it. ![]() ![]() As far as wheels go, I initially wanted to go with Forgestar F14f's, but I think I have since decided on Forgeline DE3C's. Here is a quick photoshop someone did for us on the F14f's...I am really excited! ![]() |

Roadster Shop complete front and rear suspension will be here in a month hopefully and the transformation will begin ![]() Truck will most likely be a 5/7 to 6/8 static drop, so stock fender wells will have to go. |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
It's been a little while since I have updated this thread, but we have been busy!
Received the Roadster Shop front and rear suspension...it's beyond badass: ![]() ![]() ![]() In the first night, we pulled the front end off and the stock 350 and TH400 out: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And just because I like this picture: ![]() A look at the stock stuff underneath of a 44 year old truck: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
The next day, we pulled the stock K-member out of the truck. MAN, that thing is heavy and huge compared to the Roadster Shop one. I am beyond amazed at how awesome the RS stuff fits:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() With the RS K-member in, it was time to put the mock LS engine and 4L80e in and see what we were looking at space-wise: ![]() ![]() ![]() Going with Stainless Works LSXT headers: ![]() With the front end on: ![]() ![]() We have soooo much room for activities! ![]() |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
After we mocked up the front, it was time to start on the rear of the truck. We pulled the bed off and pulled out the stock rearend and trailing arms:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It was now time to start cutting out the frame for the C notch: ![]() ![]() ![]() Roadster Shop C notch mocked up: ![]() We thought we may need to modify the tunnel area to fit the big 4L80e, but these pictures show plenty of clearance: ![]() ![]() C notches installed, time to install the rearend housing and 4 link: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Ok, I'm jealous. The truck looked great the day y'all bought it. The RS products look great too. How well did it all fit together? What was the stock rearend ratio?

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Thanks so much everyone! This is literally my dream build!
Quote:
I have no idea what the stock gear ratio was in the truck. I probably drove it less than 200 miles before we tore it apart for this build. We are going with 3.70's in the Strange 9" though. |
