McGaughys Drop Spindles Rubbing on Rim..Help!
OK, a couple of weeks ago I installed my 2.5" McGaughys Drop Spindles, new rotors and calipers: all went well.
Then I test fit the wheels. Then noticed noticed this. Question is, what should i do? Spacers, which I believe will push them too far out? Different wheels? Grind "just enough" on the spindle in order to gain the necessary clearance needed? These are the original 8" rally wheels that I really don't want to change. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Some creative grinding should do it.

Re: McGaughys Drop Spindles Rubbing on Rim..Help!
That's the direction I'm leaning, just a little concerned about going too far. I have no idea how much torque is actually applied to that area where the tie rod end connects to the spindle? Don't want anything failing. Granted, I don't think it would take much grinding to get the clearance I need.
Thanks Mike

Re: McGaughys Drop Spindles Rubbing on Rim..Help!
To figure out how much you would need to grind, stack some washers over the studs until the rim clears. Then measure the washer stack - that's how much you'd have to grind.
I wouldn't have a problem grinding one quarter of the tie rod mount thickness away, but I would grind ~only~ what I'd need to to have it clear. If a quarter of the thickness is still not enough, I'd probably run as thin a wheel spacer as I need to clear. Question: Will clip-on weights clear the tie rod mount ~and~ the tie rod itself? or Will stick-on weights clear the ball joint and brake caliper? (I'm running 3" BellTech and had to grind a TON off the bottom of the control arms as well as one ball joint to fit factory 15x8's)

Re: McGaughys Drop Spindles Rubbing on Rim..Help!
SkinnyG, I've thought about the "clip-on weights" myself. That just reminded me that I have an extra rally w/tire and weights, I'll give it a try.
I'm pretty sure caliper and ball joint are fine. Great idea on the washers. Thanks Mike

I made 1/4" spacers for mine, but I also did some grinding first so I am not sure how much I really needed?

Re: McGaughys Drop Spindles Rubbing on Rim..Help!
Thanks Kevin. I slapped on some 7" rally's and found I gained 1/4" more clearance, the 1/4" difference in BS between the 7" v 8" rally's. However, want to go with 8" rally's all-around. Gonna have to grind a bit and find 1/4" spacers. Not having much luck with that though. Again, thanks Mike
