Hey guys wanted to see what I am missing here, I got my new CPP lowering spindles on and put the hub back on, the brake caliper does not want to fit with shoes it. I am missing something here I am sure.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
I haven't run into this, but I just bought and painted a set to go on my truck soon (hoping I don't run into this). So your truck is a 72, could it be that they sent you the 73+ spindles?? I'm chiming in to see the outcome.
Taking a tangent - was your caliper hanging up previously? One side of the rotor looks like it has been worn more thin? |

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
Need more info here. What year is the truck? Are these parts ftom your 72?What ccp drop spindle did you get? Do you have a part #? What year truck did the rotor and calipers come from if not from the 72? Is there dust plates installed?

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
The vehicle already had disc brakes and dust shields, I was trying to up grade and redo what I could while the front end was torn down.

Im at work but pretty sure they are the CPS2 2.5 drop. I am stuck with them cause I painted the right one before installing it. Like I said this truck has been fun and me not checking is my own fault, I will start working some overtime for some wilwoods.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
Did you order67-72 drop spindles or 73+? If you ordered 67-72 drop spindles. And the rotors are fitting funny on the new spindles i bet the previos owner put a 73 plus front brakes and steering system. Did you have any trouble with the ball joints or steering linkage when installing the spindles?
Van yoy post a pic of the caliper front and back? Where the hose hooks up can say what generation truck the brakes came from.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
I ordered 67-72 spindles and the disc brakes were already on the veh when I purchased it, I did not see any markings on the brakes so unable to identify, I was going to change to bigger brakes in the front later on, just wasn't going to do right now but looks like I may have to, I now have to decide on Baer or wildwoods.

What width rotors? 1" or 1-1/4"? 71-72 and 73-87 calipers will work with the HD rotors and aftermarket conversion spindles. (the only issue is if your truck has the light duty 73-87 1" rotors) We need better pics. Do you have steel a-arm bushings or the 73-87 rubber a-arm bushings? There is no one spindle that fits 67-72. It will be 63-70 (conversion spindles) or 71-72 or 73-87 HD or 73-87 Light Duty. There have been issues in the past with people having to grind the caliper ears on the CPP spindles due to a slightly sloppy casting. But the caliper should fit snug onto the spindle ears. Please back up and take a few more pics of the a-arm bushings and the entire suspension.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
Light duty spindles also have 1 bearing that is different,... so if you purchased the wrong spindle to go with your rotors,... that may also be the issue.
EVERYTHING has to match the spindle you choose. Balljoints Outer tie rods Calipers Rotors Bearings

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
My bad for not tearing down first, I did not build it so just did some assuming, lesson learned, either correct now or just put spindle back on and save up some more money . LOL

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
I am about to go through this exact same situation myself. I was looking to find some information on here before I bought my drop spindle. I have a 68 that already had a five lug disc conversion on it when I bought it. How do you tell which spindle you have? I know there are several possiblities what was put on it.

If you know what year they are, you can figure out what spindle you have on the truck now. Rubber a-arm bushings means 73-87 parts,... but the rotor width is key to buy the correct spindle since they make 2 different spindles for the 73-87 trucks.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
I will take some pics of my suspension (A-arm bushings, Upper ball joint, and outer tie rod end) and post in here and if the OP posts some more pics I can compare. Thanks for the help though.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
I will take some new pictures tonight, I replaced my upper and lower ball joints no problem and I used MOOG replacements for a 68, I bought a 68 outer tie rod and it was not correct. CPP only offered one spindle that I saw so not sure about 2 different lowering spindles.

Sorry about that pic measuring the rotor, I didn't realize I moved while taking the pic.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
As long as you know what size rotor it is doesn't matter to me which spindle you buy.
Here's what Summit Racing offers for the 1" rotors,.... http://www.summitracing.com/search/y...drop%20spindle MAKE SURE YOU VERIFY THE SPINDLE IS FOR A 1" ROTOR.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
Lolife99, Have you ever had any issues with the Belltech Spindles (3200)? Reason I ask is that I have used Belltech in that past on other trucks with no issues, but I just recently installed a set of Belltech Drop spindles on an 03 Ford Lightning, the fit was horrible.

I installed them on my last truck. And I also have another set that I bought for a different truck. Belltech is my choice for all 67-72 and 73-87 trucks. I have used ECE, McGaughy's and Western Chassis drop spindles without issue on C10 trucks.

Re: CPP Lowering Spindle
Well I just ordered a set of belltech spindles. Should turn out good. I will post some pics when I get it done.
OP, I didn't mean to high jack your thread. I just figured since you were having some issues I was trying to avoid, I would chime in. Thanks |
