Re: over 75 Cars & Trucks in CO

30 miles from me. I lost count of the 60-66's, at least 20-25. Saw at least 5 or 6 suburbans, owner has one himself. Here's the story, as I got it from the owner. He's older, had it over 40 years, and ready to sell the highly valuable real estate. It will not continue as a junkyard, it's surrounded by "upscale" commercial & industrial property. Said he crushed over 700 vehicles, most of the newer and jap stuff. Still much truck stuff, also a lot of 67-72's left. some is complete and he wants to sell as complete, says he has titles for most of it. A few observations: NICE guy. NO dummy, knows what he's got. Says he won't crush any of it. No real bargains here, at least not yet. Besides the complete trucks, there's 60-66 sheet metal all over the place, doors, fenders, grilles, yaa yada yada, All pricey. examples: nice 62-66 hood (he has a PILE of them) $250 plus my old hood (which isn't really in terrible shape). Complete 65 Sub 2wd, running but rough, 6K. Couple of complete 55-6 Cameos, I didn't bother asking. Suburban guys; NO window latches, NO upper hatch supports that he will separate. Also said he's keeping the 5 or 6 short beds. He won't be gone tomorrow, but he said he's had interest in buying quantity.

Re: over 75 Cars & Trucks in CO

As time goes on and he wants to actually make a profit on selling the land then those prices will be coming down. That or he's going to need to crush the rest. Why ask high prices? The real estate is the big money maker there. Price the stuff to move so people can still get some use out of the stuff. It's just a waste of everyone's time otherwise.

Why is it a waste of time if he knows what he has? Based on the description above he doesn't sound like he is ripping people off, just charging market value. Most important to me is that the stuff is fairly priced and that he is a nice guy. I wish I could head to Colorado and pick up some stuff. Its not like they are making quality American made body parts for these trucks. People being concerned with bargains and discounts is what has resulted in the Walmart-ization of America.

Re: over 75 Cars & Trucks in CO

I've a feeling this guy is going to do whatever he wants. It's his stuff, his real estate, his business. He honestly didn't seem to me to be in any particular hurry. Sounded to me like he's built plenty of stuff in his time, said he specialized in Cameos. If you have interest in dealing with him, I would suggest simply calling him. I heard him take a dozen calls while I was talking with him. I never met the man before, all I can say is what I was hearing him tell people and what I was seeing seemed to jive, albeit, as I said, seemed kinda pricey TO ME. Everyone knows, even him, that he won't sell out at top prices, the big question is how long does he want I to take. I'll be honest, he didn't seem to be in a hurry, he's enjoying it. He indicated he pretty much has the real estate buyer in his pocket, it's a commercial neighbor with expansion needs who has wanted it a long time, so he would be able to structure a deal on the real estate which would allow a year or so to clear the remaining 100 or so cars, which would give a dismantling/reseller type enough time. Apparently, he has had a couple of parties express an interest in purchasing the whole lot. The value of the good stuff he didn't crush, isn't going down, and he knows it. He went from nearly 1000 cars to 100 for a reason.
I did not attempt to talk him down on the nice hood, I don't need it $250 bad, or honestly even $150 bad. There were at least 6 in the pile I was looking at, and MANY more about the yard. I did witness part of a negotiation he had with a guy who was interested in a very nice chrome GMC grille. He quoted $450. The guy thought that was way high, I was talking to him later in the yard, he said he wouldn't pay that. Later I saw them loading the grille (it was already removed) into the guys truck. So, did the price come down, or did the guy cave? I couldn't say. As for the running suburban, I'm sure he knew I didn't want it, when he said he was asking 6K. Undoubtedly, he'd sell it for less. I'd say anybody who thinks they know better than him what to do with his stuff, is probably misjudging this character. It also did not really look to me like he'd be into shipping stuff out, but I can't say that for sure. To sum it up, I'd say if you are close enough for a road trip and scouting parts, I'd give him a call and tell him what you're looking for. He will let you pull your own stuff. Like he says, all the cigarette lighters have already been stolen. Here's a few more pics And in case the CL ad runs out, his phone is 775-9674 and his name is Dave, he gave me his card.

Re: over 75 Cars & Trucks in CO

I called him wanting a chrome grill and bumpers and he said he wasn't selling anything off the truck they were mounted on. Oh well.

Re: over 75 Cars & Trucks in CO

yes, I'd say there's quite a number of vehicles he is (wisely IMO,) not parting out, but wlll sell complete. There are also some he's keeping, he said he's building a new shop and wants a few projects for retirement. He said he wouldn't sell any of the shortbeds. I remember one chrome bumper but it was on a shortbed, maybe the one you talked about. I think I saw another on a GMC Suburban, but maybe it's not straight. I saw a number of decent looking grilles, some anodized, some painted, did not examine really closely. I wasn't looking at bumpers or grilles much, in fact, as I walked around, my head was spinning, I couldn't remember anything I needed, except upper hatch supports, which he has, but he won't part out that suburban. There is a lot of removed parts piled in the beds, and laying around, but he does seem to know where and what stuff is.
He won't part out the el camino in the pic above, or the blue longbed 56, he has another nice complete 58 shortbed fleetside two-tone with top level chrome and v8....he won't part that out. I seriously doubt he'd part out those cameos, though I didn't ask. Nice complete 64 chev 283 PG impala 2dr HT, 58 Chev bel air 4dr, 53 or 54 bel air 2 dr, all going complete. he's got a restored 47 Chev firetruck I THINK he would sell, I saw at least one very dressy 70-72 suburban, I think there were others. He also has some old Jeep overlander wagons and some early CJ's. a row of Pontiacs I didn't look to close at, though there was at least a 65 or 66 full size convertible probably a Catalina. and firebirds.
