20 inch wheel probloms
I need help on my 65 c10 short fleet. I picked up a set of 20's for cheap and came with tires. The old tires are 275/60/15 with a o.d of 27.99 inches and the new set is 275/55/20 with a od of 31.91inches. My question is i am rubbing on the front of the rear fender and my lugs look like they may not fit. Any answers anything and i also was going to replace the springs any sizes.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
That is a big tire. When I did my 65 i pulled the drums and put longer studs in and then bought new nuts with correct taper to match the wheels. You will have to trim the lip in the wheel well to fix the rub. You will find your speedometer is going to be several mph off to the slow side. On mine I could not get a tire near that big to work on the front.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
31-32" tall tire is really tall for our trucks, particularly when lowered - as that positions the rear axle line forward as a result of the arch of the trailing arms.
I run a 31" tall tire on the rear of my truck, but I modified the bed and wheel wells to run a 33" tall tire (to accommodate tire growth when I drag race it). I also run a CPP lowered trailing arm cross member that helps with the geometry. Here's an old photo of how I stretched the wheel opening: The vertical black mark indicated the old centerline of the wheel opening with the weld being the new centerline. I stretched it 3.5 inches forward.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
Thanks for the response. But I dont have to stay with the tire size. I can go down in size but what size. I hate the skinny rubber band look but dont want to heavily modify the truck. I want to fill the wheel well. And what length on the wheel studs.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
Yep, that would be more than 2" reduction in overall tire diameter from the OP's tire size.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
Thanks. Thats what I need. I will get some prices on the lower profile tires. I wonder if I take them to a used tire shop can a trade used for used. Hell even spend a little for newer tires.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
Skinnier rubber bands or start modifying to accommodate the larger tires. Porterbuilt makes a longer trailing arm that might be a simple solution ( with driveline, brake line etc) to run the bigger tires and have then clear.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
Cooper197 do you have enough clearance to do a 3/5 drop. I would like the rear fender just over the rim.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
I'm at a 2.5/3 inch drop currently. I can't go measure things to make sure, as I am away at school in a different state than my truck, but I'm 95% sure that there is space to go to a 5" drop in the back.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
Your cheap 20" wheels will cost you some money if you want to run them. You'll need to new tires as said. Also, most of the 20" wheels have more back spacing for the newer vehicles. This means that you might need to run fairly thick spacers. And yes the lug nuts are different sizes. You will want to ask for lug nuts to fit your truck, not a Tahoe.
Here is a tire size calculator to figure out tire sizes. http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-calculator/

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
The lugs were actually the ones on it when I got the truck. They fit with those wheels, so I used them! They are just standard acorns.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
Make sure you have enough threads on the lugs with these wheels. The panel I bought, the reason it was being sold was the guy had put on aftermarket 22" wheels with stock studs and one of the wheels fell off because not enough thread engagement. Damaged the driver rear corner of the panel and was pissed off he sold it.

Re: 20 inch wheel probloms
Wow i would kill that guy..but thats why im asking. The back spacing is perfect. But the tire is too tall and lugs seem short. I will go with a lower profile tire and ill need to replace my lugs until I get a brake kit
