4 speed swap
So in light of my th350 going out in my 84 c10, I've got all but a flywheel and a driveshaft to convert to a Saginaw 4 speed out of a 76 Camaro. I will be running manual linkage and a factory pedal set so that's the straight forward part.
My question is since the shifter mounts all the way at the back of the trans which is the stub style not the long style. I've had a truck with the granny geared sm465 and the shifter was close to the seat. How far back will it be with this trans? Anyone have pics or done this swap? I would like to keep my bench and a comfortable length shifter. Right now all I've got is the one from the Camaro. Thanks for any help. |

I'd guess it would be pretty close to the front of the seat. Within 2-3" anyway

Been there and done that and about to do it again ( this time going from a three on the tree in a 79' SWB step side to a Muncie 4 spd car tranny). The best thing to do is measure 10 times before you start cutting a whole in your floor. Hook the tranny up to the motor and drop it in getting it where you want it. Then measure for the hole in the floor where the shifter goes through.

I would be interested in your findings and how it comes out for you. Post some pictures if you can. I am trying the same thing with my 66 C10. I want to put a 5 spd in and keep my bench seat also. I dont want the shifter right up against my seat, and I would like a long shifter, not a short one. I havent found much on here yet about any options available. Thanks for posting. Good luck to you!

I've run this set up in my truck for a while. It's close to the seat, you'll want to look through the different shifter rods they make and pick out one that works. Mine was short and 90 degree straight back over the top of the seat, seems like I may have angled it forward slightly.

If you're close to the seat use a 567 benchseat shifter handle.
