Gave the 66 disc brakes and a new stance over the weekend
I have been collecting parts to the disc upgrade on the 66 and got it all together and worked it over the weekend. Truck has a 2/4 CPP springs drop in it before the swap. The plans were to do the 73 to 87 a arm swap and drop spindles with 6 lug rotors. I also did a booster and master cylinder swap. I used a complete setup off a 95 1500 for the booster, master and the proportioning valve. That all went on very nicely with the Captnfab bracket on the truck. I redrilled the petal 1" down and added the adjustable push rod to the booster. I decided to redrill the lower shaft to move the lower control arm 3/4" forward. While at the junkyard hunting the booster setup I was able to snag a set of upper control arm bolts from an early 80's truck. I thought they were longer and would aid in getting the caster improvements. They ended up being about a 1/2" longer. Got the front all installed and headed to the back. I wanted to do a 1" block in the back. I ordered a set of U-bolts from way2lo and machined a set of blocks. I took come measurements and it looked like the pinion needed to come up about 3 degrees to get it back to where it needed to be so the wedge got made into the blocks. It all came out great and the truck sits just like I had hoped. drives and stops well. Gets aligned in the morning and I will post the final specs

Re: Gave the 66 disc brakes and a new stance over the weekend
Alignment ended up .2 camber, 5 degrees caster and 1/8" toe. Got some better measurements off the drive shaft on the alignment rack and looks like a degree to much angle on the rear blocks. Will pull them and put em back in the mill tonight. Does drive very well after the alignment and the disc brakes are a big improvement. Got a gift from the guy who owns the alignment shop. He gave me a complete front end out of a 79 model truck for free. More stuff for the collection.

Re: Gave the 66 disc brakes and a new stance over the weekend
Are those pictures with the 2.5" drop spindes? so a total of 4.5" in front?
And 4 inch springs plus 1" block in the rear? Looks beautiful. Well done. |

Re: Gave the 66 disc brakes and a new stance over the weekend
The picture at Woody's is with just springs and they are marked -2 and -4 and I was told when I got the truck it had a 2/4 drop in it. The second picture is in front of my shop and it is with the drop spindles and a 1 1/8 block in the back using the same springs. The angle is not that good on the second pic to show the stance on level ground. I'll get a better pic and ad it to the thread.

Stance looks great....nice truck. Did the spindles move your wheels out? If so 'bout how much and did you run into any interference issues?

Re: Gave the 66 disc brakes and a new stance over the weekend
The truck has the same 15X8 wheels and the 275 60 tires all the way around. So I switched the front to 235 70's when I did the swap. track width looks about the same and I did not measure it. I did have to do some grinding on the lower control arms due to the wheels hitting in a tight turn. A larger wheel would not have been an issue.

Re: Gave the 66 disc brakes and a new stance over the weekend
Sounds about the same... a little grinding on the a arms with the std dropped spindles then. Also sounds like they were moved out but you were able to offset that with the narrower tire. Thanks for posting the info.

Looks good man, I swear I saw this truck when it was over here on the eastern shore, when were you at Woody's/Chincoteague?

Re: Gave the 66 disc brakes and a new stance over the weekend
Changed the tire for clearance and to get the look I wanted. I like the tires to be about the same height and a wider tire on the back. Will go up just a little on the tire on the back when they need new rubber. That may be a while since I have a good set that came off the front. Yes the old girl spent a god bit of time at Wallops and on the island this summer. That pic was from the middle of June.
