satin paint

Ive searched around and cant really find what im looking for. Im leaning towards painting my truck a satin finish. Im thinking either hot rod flatz gray by tcp global or SEM satin paint in the gray or silver. There is also summit racing paint and Eastwood. What is the best to go with. No fading holds up well, no fingerprints etc.... im not going to go black. Im thinking either silver gray or red. If I have to go gloss the same colors apply. Thanks guys.

Yup, I've thought the black is overworked and maybe go back to a gray primer look but sealed so what 60% gloss?

Well according to SEM and Tcp global there 2k urethane you dont have to put a clear on it. They say it will hold up. So im hoping people will chime in.

Satin finish can be difficult to maintain i.e. fingerprint like you mentioned. At work we knock down the clear with a flattening agent and apply over the base color we mix. It holds up well, buffs or nibs great and washes good. Just like a normal base/ clear system but in satin. Its more expensive but being easy to take care of is worth it to some. We used to wipe the Harley Midnight series satin bikes down with windex and a micro fiber cloth. Cant imagine doing a whole truck a few times a week.

See thats what im getting at. The companies I mentioned say thats not true. With the 2k urethane. I dont want to be in the paint too much cuz if I am I might as well go bc/cc. I dont know

Agree paint and then clear with a flat agent. More money now but easier to maintain and resale will be worth it.
Harley now makes a detailed for suede paint. It is the only one on the market that I know of

I tell customers everyday " in the paint and body world, you pay for what you get". There are guys doing great jobs with quarts of Rustolium from the John Deere tractor store and applying it with a brush and roller over on the H.A.M.B. I have sprayed HotRod Flatz and still have some. Its great for what it is. Will it last like a base clear system? Will the single stage buff or nib without troubles? Its low cost, easy to use and gets the job done. Sure its better than newspaper and a case of spray bombs, but a flattened clear top coat will look and last better.

R-M has a flattening agent that you put in the clear. It's SM09. Depending on how much you use determines your sheen. Since it's in your clear it still has UV protection so it won't fade or fingerprint.

SEM Hot Rod smoke is a beautiful satin grey finish, like a charcoal and it's single stage. SEM makes the best satin black product on the market as far as I'm concerned but they also have the hot rod line in white and smoke. Check them out

Although, I sprayed my truck with hot rod flatz and it laid down perfectly. Until I sanded most of it off

How does the SEM hold up out in the weather though. How does the satin paint hold up

It's fully UV stable and protected just like any other catalyzed product. you mix 4 parts paint to 1 part catalyst and 1 part reducer and spray. The hot rod black they sell is the best I've ever used

Just curious JJ, do you have much auto painting experience? I ask because I have NONE and have wondered how mine would look if I tried. Yours looks great.

i was planning on going the HOTROD FLATZ way also, but they dont have the shade im looking for. a guy i know has his 66 done in a powder blue and its just beautiful. im looking for an olive green (not olive drab) are there any other companies i can check?

You can mix it or they will even sell it mixed from a supplied sample

That looks pretty good. I heard the tracor paint and industrial paint doesn't hold up well at all. But ive never used it
