I found a 68 12 bolt. Im wondering if anyone has had any issues with the tires hitting body line when trying to lay frame. I have a 65 burb.. I'm guessing it would be the same as a fleet side? My wheels are about 10" wide. I'm running spokes with adapters. Im guess that might had a half inch at most??. Id hate to spend over a grand just to narrow the rear end a couple inches. My tires are about 28" tall.Thanks in advance.. here's a pic for attention.

The 68 rear ends are wider then your 65 rear end. About 1 1/2 inch i believe. plus the lower you go from stock the rear end will be pushed closer to your body unless you have a adjustable track bar...Others can ring in and add more I'm sure.

I thought it was 73 and newer?

Very possibly, but my thought was 67 and newer were wider...I could be wrong but Im sure others will know more then me

I think it is 72 and newer. When they went to the 5 lug and the disc brakes the track got wider. Just as with the fleet sides and trying to get real low the rear wheel can get into the roll in the body. Also a 10" wide 28" tall tire is a lot to try and lay frame with with no body mods. You can get a rough measurement of your max tire height by measuring from the frame to the ground and the top of the wheel well to the ground and subtract the frame measurement. That will tell you how far it is from the body parts to the ground. Tire has to fit in that space.

I think the 63 to early 70 12 bolt is 62" WMS to WMS and from late 70 to 87 the width increased to 63.5" WMS to WMS.

Anyone can guess, so here comes mine. Ten-inch wheels PLUS at least 2" for adapters[**PLUS any additional width??? from it being a '68???].....I'd say you are pushing the envelope, & oughta do more research before you go further on this project. Remember: when installing/removing the wheel-and-tire, you've also got to lean it in and out[between outer fenders and inner tubs].
Hopefully a burb-owner will chime in...they know more about these burbs than GM ever knew!

**I agree w/DLW on width--didn't add the extra 1.5" 'til mid/late-year 1970.

I know I'm going to get flack over this but what about using a Ford 9" rear end? A lot stronger and parts readily available. Here's some measurements. Ford F100 1957-1972 = 61.25" WMS to WMS, Ford full size cars 1964-1971 = 61" WMS to WMS, 1967 Cougar = 60" WMS to WMS, 1958-1960 Edsel's = 60" WMS to WMS. Yes, I plan on using a Ford 9" in my 64 C10 which is why I have all the research done.

Well... I guess all this is gonna force me.into getting the rear end narrowed..I think quote was for my original 6 lug rear end is roughly 1400.. shorten it 4" 5 lug axles. New bearings and new gears.
