A radiator swap question
I'm replacing the radiator in my 1984 K2500 6.2 Suburban. Hit a tree, but that's all I'm saying about that. I found a new radiator for a good price, but the engine oil and A/T fluid coolers and their connections are swapped from stock. That is, they're on opposite sides of the factory setup. I can shorten the engine oil lines and may be able to use the A/T lines from the donor vehicle I bought, as that rig's connections are on the same side.
Am I looking at anything that can cause me any trouble? Why aren't the lines always connected on the same side of the radiator? Does it have anything to do with 2WD vs. 4WD? I live in southern Nevada in the winter. Thanks. |

Re: A radiator swap question
transmission coolers are normally on the right side.
engine coolers are on the left sounds like you have a radiator that is w/engine cooler but made for a manual transmission. I would purchase a aftermarket transmission cooler and put it in front of the new radiator. |

Re: A radiator swap question
The oil cooler for this A/T Diesel is on the right, and the A/T fluid cooler is on the left. It was a stock radiator. You may have something about the difference between A/T and M/T.
In any case, it's an odd thing they ran the oil cooler lines along the left side of the engine compartment and across the back of the radiator to the connections on the right side, and the A/T fluid cooler pipes from the right side of the engine compartment to the connections on the left side. I'm going to go straight, unless somebody here tells me why I shouldn't do it. Thanks for the response. |
