1987 k20 suburban
i got myself into a lil trouble. i decided hey since i got the motor fixed lets whip it in the yard, and well the c-clip broke and shot the axle out of my axle housing. what i was wondering was if i could swap in a 14bolt FF into the suburban with not problem or am i goin to have to just fix the 14 bolt SF that i got?

Re: 1987 k20 suburban
I've have never done that myself but I have a 3/4 ton crew with a 14 bolt FF and I don't see any problem with putting that in a 3/4 ton Suburban.

A 14b full float is a straight up swap should not require any modifications. Just make sure you get one with the same axle ratio and try to find a later one with the ribbed housing.

My '85 3/4 crew made in Oct.84 does not have the ribbed housing. My '87 1 ton cab chassis does. That may help in your search.

What are the benefits of the ribbed housing? Cooling?

Stronger housing in general, especially if you decide to go crazy some day and shave the bottom off.
