Power steering issue

Power steering was working fine. I had minor leak out of power steering pump at the seal body to housing. Pulled it out, resealed and put back together. Did the bleeding procedure on jackstands repeat it several times but no luck. I have no power assistance out of the pump. When I pull return and place it on top to return in fill hole pump is pumping fluid just fine trough whole system. Where did I go wrong? when I put it together for the first time while building truck all went together without any issue and worked since day one. Am I missing something?

Thanks for any input.

Re: Power steering issue

Is the pump used or new/rebuilt? How about the steering box?

Pump is rebuild unit from Napa. Steering box is used, no play and no leaks. It was running great, no noise or anything.

Re: Power steering issue

When you removed the pump from the reservoir, are you sure you got the spring put back behind the pressure valve/fitting on the back?

Re: Power steering issue

I did put all parts back in. Is it possible that the round magnet is restraining flow in any way? It was placed right where suction hole is in the pump. I will pull it back apart again and see. It will be some stupid rookie mistake i know it.

Re: Power steering issue

Do you by chance have another spare pump you could remove the fitting on for comparison purposes?

Re: Power steering issue

I had this saved which has an exploded view of the assembly of the pressure fitting.

Checked, fixed and it is back working fine and guess what? 2 and 3 were not placed as on your link. I can say for sure now it will never happen again

Re: Power steering issue

I bet you have the little o ring on the pressure fitting in the wrong groove. Been there and pulled my hair out over it.

Take your 1" wrench and remove the fitting and spring from the back of the pump. The o ring around the fitting fits in one groove and the other groove remains open. When the o ring is put into the wrong groove you'll have no power assist.
