Pape Enterprises Small "Sleeper" Topper?

I just bought a 1984 long wheelbase crew cab dually with, what I believe is, a Pape Enterprises small "sleeper" type topper. It' extends only a few feet behind the cab. It looks like those I used to see on drag car hauler rigs back in the '80's (usually accompanied by an aluminum "wing" on the cab)

Does anyone have any info on these? I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or not but I can't find much about these online.

Thanks, Jim

I've got one also .. Company went out of Business a few years ago .. Picked it up from a board member on here Corts60 .. I was gonna get a dually and put it on .. Right now It just sits , but still not able to decide what to do with it ..

I posted a picture of it before I got it .. Still mounted on Corts60's truck in photo ..

Also referred to as a 1/4 shell, cowboy camper, etc. There are many different styles my 85 dually had one on it too but had to take it off because the 5th wheel didn't clear. If you look at the dually pic thread there are a bunch of them with different styles.

How is this topper used? I don't see any way of accessing the inside. Is it just for looks?

my friend had one, you take out the rear window and a boot seals it to the cab

I agree. They still make them and have air mattresses too. I guess you climb thru back window and sleep fetal position because bed wouldn’t be wide enough to stretch out

Another run at the top....

I would love to see some interior pics of one of these. Entertaining the idea of finding one for my Cali to Tennessee move next year....

Re: Pape Enterprises Small "Sleeper" Topper?

That SWB with the topper is my old truck. The back window of the truck is completely removed and there is a huge rubber gasket between the topper and the cab to seal it. Then regular door jamb rubber is placed over where the back window would've sat. This topper basically just acts as a storage area for the interior.

Just FYI, my truck had that topper on there for about 25 years and the seal eventually trapped water and rotted out the sheet metal around the cab back window. My advice would be to remove it annually and inspect for corrosion/rust.
