Scratch and scored front wheel hubs
I was knocking out the bearing races on a front hub today and I guess I had the screwdriver (I know, I know) angled too much at some point and ended up gouging the inside of the hub. I know it's hard to answer without seeing the damage but generally speaking... how big of a deal is this?
No real problem - just drive the new races in and get on with it? Medium problem - but can be fixed with emery cloth or Dremel or a honer? Huge problem - it will have to be replaced? |

No real problem - if you just hit the hub dress the bur and put the race back in, although it is hard to tell without pics.

Here's the best photo I could get of it.

Meant to mention... in the photo above the gouge is just to the right of 12 o'clock.

Thanks.... I'm glad to hear it! I wasn't looking forward to tracking down replacement hubs. I just want to get the brakes back on so I can cruise around town some. All that's left to buy are the seals and front wheel cylinders. Also, figure I might as well replace the shocks while the truck is up on stands with the tires off... doesn't get more convenient than that! |

And while you are at, check the brake hoses for wear as well.

Re: Scratch and scored front wheel hubs
I'm replacing both of those as well. I did have a mishap though taking one of them off. Wasn't paying attention and somehow let the brake line twist and it sheared right off right behind the connector.
So, it looks like I'll be replacing brake line as well. I'm thinking I might can just re-flare the line right there without pulling the whole thing out. |
