Door adjustment with new weatherstrip
I'm working on reassembling my truck after painting, and ran into a strange problem last night. When i put the weatherstrip on the passenger door frame, the door would not close! This was more than just stiff weatherstrip causing it to close hard. It is binding somewhere and the door cannot be pushed into the closed position even with the striker pin removed.
I installed the weatherstrip on the drivers door, and it works fine. The passenger door was fine with the old weatherstripping prior to paint, so I know that the body panels are OK. I did remove the doors before paint, but re installed and aligned them with the same shims I used before. Any tips on getting the door aligned so that it will close again? |

Re: Door adjustment with new weatherstrip
Ran into the same thing. When we used the old weatherstrip the door closed nicely. New one it just wasn't going to work. Our decision was to use the old one since it was in decent shape. However the drivers door accepted the new weatherstrip and works great. Just one more example of the need to hang onto the old stuff until new proves itself.

Re: Door adjustment with new weatherstrip
The old weatherstrip on mine was so far gone that it wasn't worth saving.
I read some info last night on adjusting the doors on my truck, and it seems that I need to move the door out away from the cab, as it is likely binding on the weatherstrip at the front of the door. If I have time I will try that tonight and report back. This is frustrating, as I rebuilt the hinges and added new striker pins before I tore the truck down for paint. I had the doors aligned perfectly, and they opened and closed like new! |

Re: Door adjustment with new weatherstrip
Does your truck have the plastic piece over the striker pin on the cab that locks the door shut? If not, put that on or replace them if they are worn out. I put brand new weather stripping on the doors of my K5 project and they shut really hard but then I cut plastic tubing ( can't remember the name ) for only like $3-4 and now they shut with one finger..... like butter ! Everybody should check this on thier trucks, suck a cheap simple fix that does wonders.

Re: Door adjustment with new weatherstrip
I have brand new strikers with the bushings on them.
I can't get the door to the fully closed position even with the striker pin completely removed. |

Re: Door adjustment with new weatherstrip
Where's the best place to buy weatherstrip (or what's the best brand)? My truck is more than a little leaky...
