Hydroboost question
I'm currently in the process of swapping an 04 lq4 into my 78 4x4
I had the chance to buy the entire 04 for the swap my question is what are you guys doin with the hydroboost is is possible to swap all the 04 hydro equipment into the older truck or am I better off finding an oem 70s hydro system im rebuilding the lq4 with a big cam an plan a disc brake swap in the rear an feel I could benefit more from the hydro set up thanks for the input |

It should work just fine.
My hydro-boost came out of an 05 truck and my engine/trans is from an 07 Trail blazer. The hydro gets its assist from the power steering so the year shouldn't matter. Kim |

The only things I would question are the master cylinder and prop valve. I believe most of the hydro parts are the same, I swapped a different master cylinder and used my current prop valve when I swapped mine.

Mine is a 71 gear, a 2006 pump, and a 97 Astro Van all mashed together with some fittings...works well, almost too well.

Thanks for the replies so to get this straight (it's been a long day ha) the complete 04 hydro system should fit into my 78? An ill be using the match in 04 ps punk so no worries there but what about lines to my 70s gear box I assume the 04 is metric threads where my box is standerd do make new lines with standard an metric ends or are there adapters or find a later 80s metric box

Ok here's the little bit I figured out every ome probably is already aware but just in case the modern or in May case the 04 hydro which are metric will work in a mid 80s metric gear box an the 70s or in my case the 78 brake lines will work in the 04 master cylinder both are fine thread 1/2" an lookin at the 04 hydro system an the fire wall on the 78 it looks feasible but how much doin it'll take im not yet sure maybe some one else can chime in hope this helps some one

The hydroboost isn't all that hard to make fit, but it will require some fabrication work, about like putting the 6.0 in your truck. If you could find one off of a square body you would be time and trouble ahead. I switch the power steering boxes to the newer O ring fitting type for a couple of reasons, first, they are not as old and can be found in salvage yards easier than the older ones, and usually don't leak as bad. Also, they steer a little quicker, not super quick, but more modern feeling. Lastly, since the pump, hydroboost and box all have the same fitting types, you can use factory hoses. Yea I'm not to afraid of fabing up the 04 unit into the older truck I looked at it a little last night an the base that mounts to the fee wall on the 04 was about 6 1/2 " wide an the brake booster base on the 78 was 4" or somthin like that I think I can cut the upper part of the "pan" on the 78 that brake booster sits in im fairly certain I can make it fit right An il be sure to defiantly check out your guys builds |
