Here's mine from a fer years back.
68 stepside...where in central illinois are you? I'm right outside of Champaign in a town called Seymour. edit: By the way, if we ever wanted to have a Central Illinois/Western Indiana get-together, I have a pretty good sized and nice looking yard.

I'm north of Bloomington/Normal appx. 20 miles. Smack in between I39 and I55 in a little town called Gridley. I've been throwing around a get together idea for a while now, I have a sweet place we could have it as well, just west of I39. Maybe we could set one up for next summer?

I think it's definately something to think about. I'm all for it. I hope my truck is running by then.
I know where you're at. My brother is in school at ISU. Let's think about having one next year...we should decide location based on the number of people coming from around the area. Your location is definately more centralized in Illinois.

You hope your truck is running? I hope mine isn't 6 colors!!! LOL At least yours is presentable :p I'll throw a shout out on the get together board, just to test the waters. I'll leave it vague right now, and I'll leave it open for suggestions.

Jewels, I love your truck, absolutely love it....but I have to make one tiny little suggestion. I think you should repaint the grille bowtie, that would finish the front end off
BTW, how did you get your grille shells/headlight bezels to look so good? Lots of elbow grease I must assume. Mine are oxidized badly. Dank für irgendetwas, TJ

Alright, alright, I changed my mind, I'll post 2 pics of the 68 as it sits. The first one is the mold (yes, mold) on the drivers side door...she's been sitting for a while

Here's the second shot...the front end will always be sexy (wish the exception of the oxidized grille shells/headlight bezels), even if the rest of the truck looks like ass.

hmmm, a great suggestion! i actually havent thought about that front emblem for years now. when i bought my truck, it had nothing on it - no grill, no headlight bezels, no emblems, no marker lights. (i guess i was lucky the door handles were stil there.) i spent the first few years of ownership looking thru junkyards to find all those parts, including an old grill bowtie. the bowtie's orange paint was peeling, and i really didnt know a lot about these trucks then, so i took off all the old peeling paint, and left the emblem completely chrome. have't paid attention to it since. but you are right - it does look a bit out-of-place. i think i can fix it pretty easy. what color paint should i use? is the engine paint color acceptable? (i think i have some of that leftover). Quote:
thanks again for the compliments! i'll post more pics later. jewels.

Hey Jewels, I would use red paint for the bowtie. I've attached a close-up of mine. It's now starting to fade in one corner
I must say, you are very lucky to have found grille shells and headlight bezels that look that good. It seems most oxidize badly. You need to post some good sunset pics of that beast, red vehicles always look good with a sunset in the background. :p Thanks for your response, and here's the grille bowtie

Jewels and all,
If you want to paint the bowtie red, just use a Testors model paint pen, don't mask and paint, to much trouble IMO. Just do a few coats, the first coat will go on thin, but as soon as it drys up the next two to three coats will stick a whole lot better. BUt don't go over board or you'll get a runny mess....patience is the key.

bigblack68 - yes - we figured out a solution for the louvers.
i was gonna do what you did - except with a piece of stainless steel (to look all shiny and pretty). but i was unable to. because my hood is sloped a lot more than yours(its a 67-68 hood), the clearance between the bottom surface of the hood (at the front louvers) and the top surface of the center fan shroud was actually too small to allow anything to go inbetween them. i was amazed at how close the two come, and didnt believe it until i saw it with my own eyes. it would be possible to slip in a stainless steel sheet, but it would require some welding to the hood, which would ruin my current paint job. i actually ended up sealing each louver individually with an inexpensive flexible adhesive. its a clear adhesive you can buy at walmart. i placed painters tape on the top surface of the hood at each louver, then smeared adhesive to the bottom. then, i waited less than 24 hours, and removed the painters tape (just when the adhesive was goey, but not solid). i have to still try to paint it. so, its not done yet. still in the works. *but*, my engine is finally dry! time for the chrome! 68 stepside, the reason that i removed the orange paint in the first place was not only because it was flaking, but also because the orange color of the paint didnt match the red of my truck. now, it sounds like everyone here is calling it "red" and not "orange" paint. but, if you put it up against my truck, its definitely orange. my biggest question is how do i know what the proper color would be? is there a paint color/code i can go by? thanks! jewels.
