Is my bench seat stock?
Driving my truck means looking out of the very top of the windshield. Also, getting in the steering wheel seems very close to the bench. Of course I'm still in rebuild mode for my truck so I haven't put many miles on it but would like to determine if my issues stem from an elegant but incorrectly sided bench?

Also you can see a part of my sweet wood pile out of the passenger window!

Re: Is my bench seat stock?
Yes, that seat appears to be fcatory correct for the 1963-66 models. Probably has been recovered since it looks nice. Yes, many people have commented in other posts how close the steering wheel is, even with the seat all the way back. Some remove the gas tank and gain some extra leg room that way.

Re: Is my bench seat stock?
That is the correct seat frame. As noted, it has been recovered. The height of the bottom cushion IS taller and therefor closer to the steering wheel, so during the recovering process someone added more padding. The factory seats aren't known for their comfort, so they were likely trying to correct that.

Re: Is my bench seat stock?
I'd like more info on that very interesting selector above the rocker panel...

Bigsix, don't know about your seat, but the steering column looks stock. I have seen where some guys cut out a section of the steering shaft, slide the column forward a bit and reweld it. I put in a steering column from a motorhome and essentially did the same thing while installing. There are 4 bolts that hold it in place and the clamp on the engine side of the firewall. The clamp is a no-brainer, but I did have to cut and reweld those 4 nuts, but it really wasn't too difficult, and the payoff in driving comfort was well worth it. It does make getting your gauge cluster out impossible without dropping the steering column, though, but again there's only 4 bolts. Takes very little time or effort. |

Re: Is my bench seat stock?
Looks to be a good 2 inches taller than a stock seat. You may be able to have the foam redone in the bottom of the seat and re use the same cover. Back also looks a little thicker than stock.

Re: Is my bench seat stock?
The first page of this thread shows some stock seats and how much thinner they are.

Re: Is my bench seat stock?
I believe your seat is an original c10 seat, but I don't believe it was original for your truck. The Deluxe or custom model seats have padding in them like yours, and the conventional seat was just leather on wire.
As for your steering wheel, maybe the previous owner placed a shorter steering column? |
