Side Tanks?

Were the side tanks a factory option or were they dealer installed? I'm having little to no luck finding out. The tanks hang below the sheetmetal by about an inch but thats all. I pulled them both the other day and dropped what felt like an empty tank on my finger, but off course it was still full...

They are 24W x 15D x 12H

Re: Side Tanks?

Really? There are some pretty common questions that get answered all the time but the guru's don't have any idea about this one???

Re: Side Tanks?

I'd guess that nobody wants to tell you that they are most likely neither factory or dealer installed.

Re: Side Tanks?

I am no expert and haven't a clue.

But, I've never seen anyone say that they have factory installed saddle tanks and I've not seen repro's in the catalogs. So, I'd guess that they aren't factory. I have seen reference to after market dealer installed saddle tanks. They didn't look exactly like yours, though. I suspect that there were than one Mfg offering them.

But then again, I don't play the lottery or gamble because I always bet wrong and lose. Some body will be along eventually with a wiser opinion.

Dave.

Re: Side Tanks?

My 65 C20 had those exact tanks installed. The truck was 90% original. Don't know if this helps. But hope it does.

Re: Side Tanks?

Those are aftermarket tanks. They were popular and a lot of small companies were making them.

Re: Side Tanks?

See that wasn't hard, thank you. My truck minus those tanks is 99% original.

Re: Side Tanks?

could have been dealer installed. my Dad bought a 65 3/4T don't remember if it was a camper special but it had a side tank + the cab tank. I had a 69 3/4t that i added that same type tank.

Re: Side Tanks?

Very common dealer installed item. Some used only a single one on the drivers side, others had dual tanks on both sides. Many different companies made these and dealers sourced them from whatever was available in their region.
