Which year trucks have the 4 hole heater access plate???

I am in the process of installing a Vintage Air system, and just got off the phone with Vintage Air on a problem I am having with the heater access plate. The one I have from them has three mounting holes yet my 1961 truck requires a bigger plate with 4 holes.

The guy I spoke to, swore up and down that all of the 1960 to 1966 trucks use the same three hole plates and that I'm losing my mind. No sense arguing with him at this point...my fiance says I'm losing my mind too!!!

Here is the problem and I'm hoping you can help me out...I don't know which year trucks actually use the 4 hole plates like mine and which use the 3 hole plates that are smaller.

Can some of you gentleman help me out and tell me what year trucks actually used the 4 holes and which use the 3 holes...I'd like to communicate this back to Vintage Air.

Here is the photo of my 61 with the 4 hole plate...

Hi, my 65 chevy c10 has 3 mounting holes,I have seen the ones like you have with 4 so your not nuts,I wonder if it has to due with heater type, mine is the cheap 1 knob ,some have more controls on dash,or maybe chevy vrs gmc ,or the cab change between 60-63 or 64-66,like to hear what it is,good luck

Re: Which year trucks have the 4 hole heater access plate???

/\ those guys covered it, but you can check out this thread too:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=488618
lots of pics and info here as well...
you should get that vintage air guy to check out that thread, because the 60-61's are different, and it probably would not be hard for them to fab up a plate that makes their kit work with the earlier firewall,
it would be good to inform them so that people like you aren't frustrated when the product isn't an exact fit due to gm's production changes.

the 60-61 with a heater did have a reduction plate that spaces the hole down to one similar to the 62-66, but you only have that if your 60-61 originally had a heater....

I've never seen that reduction plate. My 61 truck did not have that item and it did originally have a heater...pretty cool info!

I have 2 with this plate, but it is the deluxe heater, maybe the cheap heater used something else?? my other 2 61's have the block off plate, and holes drilled where the cheap heater was added...not sure if either of those has an actual gm 61 heater...

My 65 has the 3 hole. I thought in 64-66 had the 3 hole and earlier models had 4 hole.

Re: Which year trucks have the 4 hole heater access plate???

In the context of this discussion when switching to an aftermarket ac/heat combo it no longer uses your factory heater at all?
