Bench/Bucket Seat Bolt Hole Finding Trick

I actually learned this by accident ,,and maybe its being to exact for some ,,but beings I came across it ,,I used it and therefore did not pull my carpet out of place at all ..and did not miss and have to make a hole again larger to get it in the correct place..

I had a light under my truck to see to bolt up my bucket seats from underneath the truck ..

So when I felt for the hole in the truck floor from above that I had predrilled before putting my carpet back in ,, I found the hole by touch and then after moving the threads some ,,I could see a complete circle of the hole by the light shining up through the carpet backing .

I then took an ice pick and punched a hole through the carpet in the direct center,,then I used a drift pin to make the hole the same size as the hole through the floor of the truck ..

A little scissor trimming so the threads would not bind the bolt ,,a easy drop of the bolts down through the seat support holes with no hang ups..

A soldering pencil is a great way to open up holes and move them slighlty in carpet without risk of pulling the carpet loops.

I've always screwed the bolts back in the hole about halfway before putting the carpet down. Then an "X" cut on the bolt head and it pushes right through. this works great if the hole is "blind" and you can't see the light through it.

Yes Leon I did it all by self,, lol I have a build posting of the carpet install and as for the Bench to Buckets ,,it was just drill new holes and install with metal bracing down below..

I was thinking of some sort of burning device and all I had was a solder iron ,, that's a good idea Tim ,,glad you added it to the ideas,,

Another good idea ,,in my case I didn't have welded nuts below to screw into,,just a bare hole..

ledzepp ,thx I enjoyed doing it all ,,waited 3 years with my move to Idaho and it was on the back burning,,now its done and I can do some grinning when I look inside the truck ,

Important tip I found out while installing the drivers bucket slide seat.

I was having trouble with the seat adjuster not staying latched and FirstOwner69 helped me out with how one can bend the bale wire under the seat and it will tightened it up some making the latch operate like it should. this is good advice especially for a seat that is been used a lot ..in my case I luckily got a very good not used much set of buckets and console..

I then discovered that when the seat is not bolted down in place ,,,,that one side of the frames under the seat was leaning inward .. That was the reason my bale was not in it's correct length to latch and unlatch correctly..

So after laying out the holes and bolting the seat down ,,my seat worked perfectly
