The temp sensor in the intake is for the computer. The one in the drivers head is for the gauge or light.
The oil pressure sender above the oil filter is for the gauge. The one at the distributor is a switch for the fuel pump. Is he switching over to a carb?

UHHH!
Temp & Oil sending unit's dont have any thing to do with emissions. But the truck will not run with out this info going to the ECM. |

The oil pressure switch lets the fuel pump know when the engine has oil pressure. The temp sender in the head and the oil pressure sender at the oil filter doesn't go to the ECM, only the gauges. Last edited by swervin ervin; 08-27-2003 at 04:59 PM. |

Yes i know it does but im not shure what he means by removing emissions most people mean removal of the cat & air injection pump & egr valve.
I've never heard of ripping out all the ECM sensors to get rid of your emissinos. But i guess that would get rid of 'em cuz the eng. wouldn' run thus no more emissions. Last edited by 87 STEPPER; 08-27-2003 at 05:05 PM. |

Bruce,
not knowing what exactly they are trying to do but I'm guessing they are going to a carb and trying to figure out which senders to keep. It would help if we knew the whole story.

To further complicate this thread, I'd like to add that I disconnected the oil pressure switch by the distributor on my 87 and installed my Autometer sending unit for the gauge there and the truck ran normally and the oil pressure gauge worked fine. Haha. Too bad the 87's in 50 pieces and the cab and frame are gone...

Sorry for the time delay guys, haven't been able to get on the site for a couple of days. Stinking dailup. I was wrong about year model, its a 86. The dude just bought it and was told it was a 87. After several parts runs, and coming back with some wrong things, I decided to look for myself on year model, 86. 87 had a thottle body on it? this had the electric quadra junk. Anyways, back to my question. We put a GM target master engine in it, Eldebrock Performer intake and a 1406 carb, and hedders. It runs now and the choke light wont turn off. I did hook up BOTH oil sending units. The one with the single terminal runs the oil pressure gauge. The other with the 2 terminals does what beside have something to do with the choke light? The temp sender on the intake was removed also, it did have something to do with emissions and vac advance on the distrubter right. the main thing about the wiring is that we did not put the rats nest of rotting vacuum lines on it and some of the sensors for the carb? No smog pump either, back to the 60's with this one. Can I cut all the extra stuff off, was looking for a wiring diagram to trace it all out and see what it does, did. the cruise and ac still works so I'm getting closer. Would just like to clean up the engine compartment . thanks again Jay
